The touch and feel of cotton caressed my skin. It was like Heaven met Earth like a beautiful kiss. I felt the same fabric on my skin but it was closer and tightened at my arms. There was something in my arm and three stickers on my chest. I moved my feet around and every cold spot my feet explored; I could feel myself unraveling from being in the cage for so long. My bones screamed as they unfolded. I stretched in soft object and snuggled into it's warmth.
17. I'm glad I can feel something so soft.
I heard a constant beeping noise to my right and murmurs to my left. Clutching the fabric in my scarred hands, I scrunched my face before opening my eyes.
I saw the backs of Kyle and Donna, and their hands were moving frantically. I looked over at the beeping noise and saw a machine with a line that would show up periodically. But, I focused my attention back on Kyle and Donna after hearing my name fly out of their mouth like a bird.
"How did we not know?" Donna asked. "He was such a calm and collected person"
"Look like the innocent flower, But be the serpent underneath" Kyle growled. He clenched his fists and shook his head. "He went to parties with the pack and I even considered him to be an example in the pack. But then I find him holding a boy hostage in his own house, under our very own noses!" He walked over to a wall and punched his arm straight through it.
I flinched and must've made a noise because Donna's and Kyle's head snapped towards me. Kyle plastered a smile on his face, that even a blind man could see is fake, and quickly pulled his arm out of the wall. He hid it behind his back as they came over to my bedside and knelt to be at my eye level.
"How are you feeling, Kye?" Donna pulled a chair up beside the bed and while Kyle did the same, Donna reached for my hand. I let her touch my crispy, scarred hands as she mumbled words I couldn't hear. She glanced at Kyle with tears in the corner of her eyes and looked at me in sadness.
I opened my mouth to answer but Jeremy's phantom words coursed through my ears.
"Answer when spoken to, but only to me. Speak to anyone else and I will put you in an oven again."
I quickly shut my mouth and my breathing picked up in rhythm. The beeping seemed to resonate with my breathing and Donna's hand seemed to tighten around mine.
"Kye? I need you to calm down" Kyle laid a hand down on the bed. "We are just going to ask you a few questions and that's all"
I shook my head and jarred my hand from Donna's. I retracted to the far corner of the bed and tried to steady my breathing. I closed my eyes and tried to keep quiet. I couldn't tell them or Jeremy would put me in the oven.
The Oven is just like how it sounds. A big oven but I've never seen the outside.
Only the inside.
When Jeremy used to threaten 'the Oven' when I was younger; I didn't really care. But then he'd always say, "In order to make you perfect, I have to break you"
Then he'd knock me out.
I'd wake up hot and on bars. There would be so many beads of sweat, that I could make bracelets for all the children in the world. The metal bars I've been on, would burn rows of straight lines onto my flesh- so straight that they could be used as makeshift rulers. My screams would close in on me and make me lose consciousness faster- but it wouldn't be fast enough. I would beat on the door; but only to have the heat turned up a few notches.
But a few notches, was the same difference as being pregnant or not.
I was shaken back into existence, as the beeping was staccato and fast pace; and Donna was shouting frantically at me. Kyle was nowhere to be found and everything Donna sprouted, died once if fell out of her mouth. I looked down at my hands and noticed that they were moist and clammy. I took deep breaths and tried to become calm but the fact of The Oven being on a table; in an unlocked at but open envelope- it freaked me out to no means.
Kyle came in through the door with a doctor and pointed towards me, his lips moving fast. Everything was moving so fast but I felt like I was moving in slow motion. I looked at the beeping machine and saw the line going faster and faster.
The doctor came over to me and I saw him pull out a needle.
Then all hell broke loose.
"No!" my voice broke through my haze and stopped all movement in the room. I took off the pads on my chest and ripped the needle straight out of my arm. A little stream of blood trickled down my arm like water to rocks in a stream. I jumped out of the comfort of the cotton sheets and onto the entombing floor as everyone watched me with frantic eyes.
"Kye; calm down. We are not going to hurt you"
I backed up until I felt the wall entomb my back and pointed at the needle.
"Then what is that?" I asked. I already knew I was going to be put back into the Oven but I wanted to be awake for it.
"It's something to make you feel better" the doctor replied simply.
"No. I will not take it. If you wish to throw me in the Oven then I will be awake for it"
"What's that?" Donna asked, sitting on the ground while sliding backwards a little bit.
"Imagine your oven on the hottest temperature. You got the picture?" I asked everyone and got slight nods from Kyle and Donna, while the doctor stood stiffly.
"Well, then imagine me inside" I watched as Donna gasped and Kyle clutch his hands until his knuckles turned the color of my skeleton.
"Kye" my head snapped towards the doctor.
"Jeremy would be disappointed" he lunged at me with inhuman speed and plunged the needle into my skin.
I felt my body sway and caught in rubbery hands as the screaming dulled.
