Another one, another battle to the death. It started out as a normal doctor dodgeball game. We were setting up mats and we put one in the corner of the battlefield everyone huddled in it. I saw a shadow pass over me, and I glanced up to see Julia and Georgia pushing a mat over us.
“Great, we're safe.” said Julia. We're all in the protection of the hut. The whistle was blown and the war started. I was feeling safe when someone took one of our mats.
Traitor! I thought, why were they doing this? I saw they we're making a new fort so I decided to join them. I ran out to get ammo and I gave it to them. They took it, but never threw it.
“We’ll save up ammo so we can ambush them” they said. We got almost all the balls and we all charged up, screaming. People on the other team were running around and diving for cover.
“We're doing this again.” said Julia.
“How about we get one person,” whispered Alanah excitedly “Gabe.”
Murmurs filled our half of the field.
“Gabe, Gabe, Gabe.” people whispered quietly, almost chanting. He was running around cluelessly on the other side. We finally stocked up all our balls, and the ambush began. Balls filled the air in an ark of death all aimed for one person, Gabe. He ran around aimlessly while balls we're flying at him. He was running around like a headless chicken and he almost fell. Suddenly, Gabe collapsed. The teacher blew the whistle.
“It can't be over so soon” Mira said.
“We will be explaining the rules again because you don't seem to understand.” The teacher said.
“Oh we understand, but there are no rules in war!” I shouted.
The teacher, Attics and Riley kept explaining though. Finally we were able to continue. Our team stoked up on balls again and we all ran out. I followed our teams previous instructions and aimed for Kyleigh. I looked beside me and saw everyone ready. On the other side I saw Mira. We all threw our balls. Kyleigh thought we would be hitting Gabe again so she was standing in front of him like a human shield. She had no idea what she was in for. I saw countless balls aimed at Kyleigh, including my own.
Beside me, I saw Mira screaming battle cries and throwing dodgeballs with all her might. Kyleigh was down. The other team caught on to what we were doing and battle of ambushes began. Just as we were huddled together preparing for the worst, the whistle blew. Sighs filled my ears.
Thank goodness this horror was over.
And I survived.
