Jerome stood at the apartment’s parking lot. The afternoon heat attached itself to his skin and made his sweat drop intensely. Not wasting a second, he held his wrist and planted his palm firmly on the ground.
“Ernisum ka” he said
Once again, a pole emerged, and nothing more came out.
He tried again, and again, and again, seeing no success in each repetition. They all ended in the pole, never reaching the blade, or even half the length of the imagined scythe.
He sat down after the twentieth attempt and thought of the world he dreamed of.
Is his plan for the perfect world really better than Destroyer’s? If everyone can have resources, if nobody was poor, if all was replenished, would the world be brought out of its poor state, or would it rot with the numbers of humankind?
Destroyer’s plan was to wipe out the weak, leaving only the strong to remain. His plan was the opposite. He wanted a world that would provide for the weak.
But, unless he is able to beat Destroyer in combat, his plan cannot come, and he will be defeated. Destroyer was his brother, but now they are enemies. The blood of siblings shall paint the roads of the city, and the skies shall bear witness to the clash of the Creator and the Destroyer.
He was able to create a brick wall after he analyzed it. He was able to create metal and a partial weapon too. Perhaps it wasn’t the most powerful of powers, but it is the most flexible. He saw atoms, and even subatomic substances in his dream, if he could only analyze it one more time, perhaps he could perfect his powers.
He stood up and walked towards the apartment. The wooden floor creaked as he slowly entered. Passing through the lobby, he made his way up towards the Mind Displayer Machine.
He heard the machine whir through the door. He slowly entered, as to make sure that whoever was on the machine would be left undisturbed.
Slowly, the machine turned off, and Crystal, who had been on the machine, stood up and saw Jerome staring. Her tears rolled down her face.
“What were you watching?” Jerome asked
“Our world before you two destroyed it.” Crystal answered
“Like I said before, it was Destroyer’s fault.” Jerome said
“But what if his plan was a success? What if he was able to transform our world to something better?” Crystal said
“While wiping out most of the human race to reduce our weakness? What if you get erased?” Jerome said
Crystal looked at him in the eye before she wiped her tears and hurriedly went out, leaving Jerome with the machine.
The Mind Displayer Machine had numerous functions. It could recover memories, recreate dreams, or even allow a person to talk to themselves. Jerome planned on using it for the third.
He strapped himself unto the machine and took a deep sigh. The machine slowly lowered its helmet unto his head.
“To a world…”
It firmly and comfortably landed in his head.
“Of my creation.”
He was instantly brought into an empty, dark void. He felt as if he was standing on the ground, but there was no visible floor.
“Welcome, Jerome.” A voice behind him said
He turned around and examined the person. He was an exact copy of him.
“What brings you here?” it asked
“I am unable to use my power to its full potential.” He replied
“Of course, you’ll never be able to.” It said
“What? Why?” He asked
“You’re too afraid, Jerome.” It said
“Afraid of what?” he asked
“Yourself.” It replied
“I am not afraid of myself! I am not afraid of anything!” he said
“You are Jerome, the Creator. You are not the Wind Bearer, nor the Wall Maker. You are the exact opposite of Destroyer. Destroyer destroys people, destroys breakers, and destroys entire areas. And what do you do? Create poles?” it said as it hid a laugh
“Its all that I can do for now. I need to practice more.” He said
“You do not need to practice it. Its not a talent, nor a skill. When that machine exploded three years ago, its energy went inside of you. It moves in your blood, it walks in your nerves, it fills your body, it is you. The only one holding you back is you, because you are afraid of being too strong.” It said
“I’ve never had that fear in my life.” He said
“You fear that the world you create may not be the world you desired. You fear that people would not want it, and you fear that it may be too much for you. You could’ve aimed to make a world, yet here you are creating small air blasts, brick walls, and metal poles. You’re an absolute waste of yourself.” It said
“What can I do then? Tell me if you must. I know that I am not ready to wield such power, nor am I ready to take on Destroyer. He is still far too powerful.” He said
“No, he is only far more confident.” It said
Jerome opened his mouth, as if to say something, but quickly closed it right after.
“Don’t you want to create a world where nobody would ever cry out of the pain of loss, and the pain of insufficiency, where all are given, and where nothing is ever lacking? Don’t you want to be the bringer of light to these dark times? Don’t you ever want to see Crystal smiling once more?” it said
Jerome shyly nodded, and without noticing it, his seal began to light up.
“Then go and bring it to life. Bring your dreams to life. Lead humanity to the world of your creation.”
Jerome was instantly brought out of the dream. Surprised, he looked around and saw a scythe lying on the ground. He smiled as he picked and up.
It was the key he needed to unlock his entire potential. The belief of power and the confidence to bring that power to life awakened a hidden branch of Jerome that even he didn’t know existed.
Creating a new world would require the power to destroy the old one, but he isn’t the Destroyer, he was the Creator. So the only way to do so is to overlap the previous world with a new one.
He walked outside and saw all the poles left on the ground. He rounded them up and placed his palms on the ground.
To alter reality and break its consistency, he chanted.
“Alterios…”
The ground below him lit up.
“Ceteris Paribus: …”
All the broken cars in the parking lot slowly vanished, and the poles near him sank into the ground.
“Everything is no longer constant.”
The sky above him turned blue, and the ground below him blushed forth with greenery. The birds filled the sky, and animals filled the earth.
He looked to the horizon and saw the glorious sunset from afar.
The world he desired was slowly coming to fruition, but he was not able to transform all of the city. The other half was still dark, and dead.
He stared at the emptiness of the broken city and said to himself, “Destroyer.”
