Within my domain,
Glittered in pastel pink,
Romantic blue,
And a blistering purple hue,
I let out
A scream
From the pits of my stomach.
I was
Afraid
Of the dark mermaid
Who wanted to make me
Ugly.
I jumped up
And grabbed fistfuls
Of the cool sheet
That laid on top of me.
Matured eyes,
Scanned the room
Of the dark threat
That only laid
Lost in memories.
I let out an exhale
Of stress
That relieved
The weight of death
As a knock came to the door.
“Princess! Are you alright?” the voice of my Handmaid, Emerald, questioned.
Quickly
I gathered myself
And replied,
“Yes! I’m...alright. It was just another night terror.” I shook my head, “I'm sorry if I worried you.”
“That is alright Miss. It happens. But please, fasten your pace in waking! Your sister and Father are waiting for you.”
My stomach clenched, “Thanks Miss Emerald! I'll be there in a couple of minutes.”
I shifted my right hand
to my chest
And pressed my fingers
Against the silver stone
Engraved between my breast.
The silver stone
Is something they implanted
When they found me,
Attempting to escape
The evil mermaid.
This is when they saw that
I wasn't ordinary,
Mutilated,
Defaced
Like the rest of society.
I was beautiful.
