"Cut it out Otto, you're scaring the poor girl." Zephira shot a glare at the man, who just shrugged in response. They shared a look with words unpassed and nothing more was said on the matter. It left me more confused than I had been when I'd awoken.
"We're waiting for everyone to wake up to give her the talk," Zephira added, sliding a plate of bacon and eggs in front of him. He was stationed at the kitchen island, which was also incredibly large. It looked like a hockey team could sit at it and there'd still be room for guests.
"You make it sound like sex." Came a sparkling high pitched voice from behind the brute of a man. Freckles danced across her tan skin like stars, a galaxy laying across the bridge of her nose. She had short blonde hair and brown eyes that reminded me of coffee.
"Sex, turning into a werewolf, same thing," Otto replied attempting to take a bite of his food. In a flash, Zephira's hand smacked the food from his hand and she gave him a chastising look.
"Wait for the others." She scolded again before turning to face the new girl. "Cora, is everyone else waking up?"
Otto and Cora, names I tried to remember if I'd heard before... but came up empty. I was certain I'd remember them if I'd met them, they were too astonishing not to.
"Luka bit me when I tried," She said lifting up a finger as if to count the others. "Honey and Elis were... uh... in a compromising position so I didn't even try. Lacey is in the shower and so is Viktor. Max was grabbing pants last I saw and Val..."
"Is right here." another deep voice rumbled. Val was also tall though much slimmer than Otto. His hair was a silky midnight black and curled at the tips, the sides were shaved down in a gradient. His eyes sloped in a way that made him seem tired and the frown he wore seemed to aid the aesthetic.
"We should start without them, I know Lacey has work so she can't stay for a full meeting," Cora added taking a seat next to Otto. I used the momentary distraction to slip onto one of the bar stools as well. I felt like if I didn't, they all might get taken.
"I got the others." Adrien chimed in, his features still struck me and my heart skipped another beat. It felt like a memory was on the tip of my tongue... but when I tried to push for it, it would fall away.
"You should introduce yourselves, then we can get started," Zephira said as new faces made their appearance. Cora cocked her head to the side before looking from Zephira to Otto, then recognition and... sadness. There was a heavy air, I wonder if any of them had noticed it. They were all so transparent, the hurt they were feeling. Because of me? Only time would tell.
A woman with long Auburn hair slid into the seat next to me, her skin glowed with sunshine like radiance and her eyes were the colour of dripping honey. Beside her sat a guy with short ashen brown hair, he had a scar that grazed the corner of his upper lip to his jawline. He had bright hazel eyes that glittered when he looked at her. Anyone could tell they were in love, even a stranger like me.
"I'm Honey, he's Elis..." She motioned towards the guy who gave a wave, though his mouth was already filled with the food Zephira had slid in front of him. Zephira rolled her eyes, but it seemed to be the okay everyone needed to start eating. I nodded in response, catching Adrien in the corner of my eye as he slid into the seat on my other side. His presence made me feel... something. I couldn't place it, but it was a mix of familiarity and unease.
If he knew me, why couldn't he just say it?
It bothered me.
"They're mates, so don't be surprised to find them wrapped around each other after a full moon." A voice cool as ice spoke from around the corner. Another woman with raven black hair and glacier blue eyes appeared.
"Don't pay any mind to Lacey, she's just bitter," Adrien whispered to me, although it seemed like Lacey heard him with the way her lip twitched.
"I'm heading out, I'll see if there are any missing person reports for her," Lacey spoke, this time to Zephira, before heading out the door. Was she a detective? If her pantsuit was any indication... I wondered if she was the good cop or the bad one. I had this sensation that she didn't like that I was here... the look she gave me before she vanished chilled me to the bones.
Was anyone looking for me? Did I have a family? Was there someone left crying when I didn't come home? There were too many variables to consider, I could feel myself spiraling again.
"I'm sure things will be okay." Honey said softly, a small smile as she gently put a reassuring hand on my shoulder. I nodded, feeling a little better. Looking down at the plate of food that had been placed in front of me, my stomach growled loudly again. Bacon, pancakes, and eggs... they smelled amazing. Food was perfect to take my mind off of the turn today had taken.
Another guy rounded the corner after Lacey had left and I felt my breath catch in my throat. He was fit, to say the least, and seemed to "forget" to put a shirt on after leaving the shower. At least he was wearing pants, thankfully, but everything else was just out in the open.
There was a tattoo of a paw print on his chest, right over his heart. It looked old, yet in good condition. The unknown looked like he stepped out of a magazine and into reality... I had to avert my gaze. It was like staring into the sun.
"Viktor, do you ever wear a shirt?" One of the others asked from across the island. I wasn't sure when he'd appeared, but there he was. The opposite of Viktor, this guy was lithe, with a pale fawn like complexion. His eyes were slender and the colour reminded me of chocolate, his dark black hair seemingly still styled from the day before.
"Not if I can help it." Viktor replied with a wink, it made a few of the people at the table chuckle and the unknown male seemed to be enjoying himself. The woman beside him turned towards me with dark grey eyes that reminded me of an incoming storm. She had messy brown curls that seemed to do whatever they wanted and a kind smile.
"I'm Max, he's Luka," She said motioned towards the man beside her. "Welcome to the East End Pack."
