The door itself wasn't anything special. Nothing screaming who Kristal was as a person. Who I was as a person. I guess I wouldn't need a sign on it, would I?
Opening the wooden door, I was met with a cozy looking bedroom. A queen sized bed that was filled with various pillows, half of them decorative. There was a door leading out to the roof like Adrien had mentioned, and close by a window hung a hammock chair. There was a desk with a computer that had various sticky notes attached to the monitor.
Pictures hung from string lights attached to the wall, giving me a timeline of my life. I walked towards them, hoping that maybe they'd trigger something inside of me.
They painted a story of who I was, though the timeline seemed a bit... off. No pictures of my parents, or of me when I was younger. A good portion of pictures included Adrien, but I saw other familiar faces. Cora appeared in several, Otto in a few... Adrien in most.
There were some spaces where it looked like pictures had been for a while but had been removed. I wondered what they contained? What stories did they tell?
"What did I want to forget...?" I found myself whispering.
It just left me with more questions than answers.
A frustrated sigh escaped my lips as I wandered towards my computer next. One of the sticky notes had my password, a few others were reminders of appointments. One stood out, a sloppy inking stating "2 Days until Vacation!!!"
That felt like an excessive amount of exclamation points, I suppose I was really excited for my vacation.
Settling myself into the seat, I prepared to dive into my world. Hopefully past me had left a schedule of some kind, or some indication of what I was up to.
After putting in my password and waiting mere moments for the computer to ready itself I was met with a wallpaper of myself, Cora and Adrien. It was a close-up of our faces, with Adrien in the middle. Cora and I each planting a kiss on either of his cheeks. We looked formally dressed, maybe it had been a birthday? It was important enough for me to make it my background.
A frustrated sigh slipped out. Why did I know such trivial things like how to make pancakes but not who I was? It pissed me off.
Angrily I clicked through a few icons on my dashboard, hoping to find something useful. One pulled up the internet, another a game of some kind, but the third pulled up a calendar.
"Finally..." I mumbled, looking through my schedule.
From what I saw Kristal was a busy girl. I had something scheduled every day up until yesterday. Starting at the beginning of the month it looked like I had dog walking appointments Monday through to Friday. Different groups each day except for Friday afternoons... it looked like I only walked one dog then.
It appeared I had six dogs that I walked semi-regularly, two in the morning, two in the afternoon then one at night, except for Friday where I only walked one called Raph. There appeared to be some other appointments sprinkled throughout the calendar. Holidays for provinces that I recognized though didn't live in, times where I was meeting with people for lunch and a few doctors appointments.
It made me wonder about my own medical history, would I know if I was sick? Another frustrated sigh left my lips, my head was starting to hurt again... and this calendar was only leading to more questions.
I started to pull drawers open, trying to find... oh, I don't know, a notebook? A family tree? Some kind of magical manifesto that would tell me about my life? All I found were hair ties and dog treats.
"This is fucking ridiculous," I muttered to myself.
How could someone have so little about themselves? Why didn't I keep a diary?
Leaving my computer I want to look around the rest of the room, digging through nightstands. Opening my closet, tossing things that probably shouldn't have been tossed around...
Then I heard it.
Ping Ping Ping
My head snapped in the direction of the sound, was that a cellphone?
Ping Ping Ping
There it was again.
I followed the rhythmic pinging until it lead me to right under my bed.
There was a phone sitting there, face down beside a cardboard shoe box.
I pulled both out...
Before I could check it, the phone died.
