Our team match-up against the opponent was terrible.

I signalled to pass my turn. I returned my cards to my deck and drew a new hand. 

Wes shot me a confused look.

He placed down a single Deity.

The opponents immediately attacked and destroyed it.

I decided to pass again on my second turn. I looked at my new cards.

Wes placed another Deity down. It was destroyed.

By the third turn, we were three Deities down, with nothing to show for our effort.

Except that now, I’d finally found the card that I’d wanted.

I set the Exploding Salamander down.

The game official instructed me to roll two die.

I rolled a five and a six.

It was just enough to clear the battle field and one-hit KO the two problematic Deities that faced us.

The noise-cancelling headphones stopped me from hearing the exact words from Kaiser and Rea’s commentary, but I could hear them talk excitedly while the audience clapped and cheered.

Our opponents looked quite shell-shocked – I was sure they’d never seen the Exploding Salamander used in competitive battle before.

To be honest, neither did I. I had only added it into my deck for a bit of a laugh.

And I was definitely laughing now. Against all odds, I had gimmicked us back into the game.

Wes put down the Two-Headed Snake and we cleaned up the rest of the Round.
