Test Subject 0133- Codename Calamity (Chapter 2)

Test Subject 0133- Codename Calamity (Chapter 2)

May 12, 2019

Today was the second day since we woke up. Seahue showed us how to use the toaster so that we could wake up and have breakfast at any time we wanted. Personally, I don't trust toasters- wouldn't the circuits be ruined if crumbs fell into them? Apparently, they'd been around for about three hundred years before 'The incident', which he refuses to tell us about but I assume it's the reason we were asleep for so long. Seahue said we could explore the facility on our own in-between mealtimes. I suspect he's just trying to gain our trust but Discord and I took the opportunity to see if we could find anything interesting in the library. I think Discord only tagged along because she was bored and wanted to check out the library before lunch but I was trying to find out anything about the 'Incident'. One of the other kids, 0137, joined us too, she said she wanted to read about toasters because she found the idea of them fascinating, which Discord thought was kinda weird but we let her come with us anyway, as long as she didn't get in our way. The library was huge and I didn't really know where to start looking. I looked around a bit before finding a history book and sitting down at one of the tables and skimming through it for anything about an 'Incident'. "You do know that there's a table of contents, right?" said Discord, who was reading her book backwards for some reason.

"Shut up," I said back, "At least I'm not reading it backwards"

"It's Japanese- you're supposed to read it backwards." She told me. I didn't know what Japanese was but I didn't feel like arguing with her. I checked the table of contents at the front but there wasn't anything about an incident that would have caused a bunch of kids to be frozen in time for a thousand years. 0137, or Maiza as she prefers being called, asked me what I was looking for, "I could help you look for it if you want me to".

"Well, tell me if you find anything about this 'Incident' that Seahue keeps ambiguously referring to," I replied. She tilted her head confusedly,

"But all these books are probably from before the incident, why would they talk about something that hadn't happened yet?" She responded. Discord started giggling at this,

"Are you really that stupid, Cally?" snickered Discord.

"Hey, she's not stupid!" Maiza yelled at her, "Anyway, why do you want to find out about the 'Incident', Cally? If the professor won't tell us, it's probably really bad and he's worried about upsetting us."

"Really, Maiza?" I asked, "Are you really gullible enough to trust someone you've only just met? He could be against us- all the things he's doing for us could just be him trying to earn our trust so he can do something really horrible and you might not care about that but I do and I'm not going to be misled by anyone because despite what you all think, I'm not stupid!" She just stood there staring at me and I realized that she was crying (She was crying right before my eyes, I can't believe I made her cry),

"I know you're not stupid, Cally, no one thinks that you're stupid." She sobbed, "I care about everyone as much as you do and you have every right to be suspicious of the professor but we have no choice but to trust him for now."

"What are you even crying for, weirdo. She only yelled at you, nothing bad happened." Discord sneered.

"STAY OUT OF THIS DISCORD!" I yelled at her. I turned to Maiza (I can't believe she was crying. Why did I make her cry? She was crying and it was my fault my fault MY FAULT), "It's okay Maiza, I'm really sorry I yelled at you. You're right- about this and everything else and I'm really, really sorry..." Seeing her cry made me melt and I didn't know what to say and I felt terrible and I still feel terrible for making her cry and she was sobbing so much and it was all my fault and I had no idea what to say so I just gave her a big hug and hoped that it would make her feel better (Hugs always make people feel better, right?).

"No, Cally," She said, pulling away from me, "It's not your fault, it's mine- I should be saying sorry for crying like this in front of you. I'm usually not like this." She looked away from me, "I'd best go now, it'll be lunch in a few minutes."

The rest of the day was mostly uneventful after that- Discord and I went to lunch afterwards and Maiza didn't want to talk so I sat by myself. For the rest of the day, I listened to music in the library's song bank (Most of the music from before the 'incident' sounds really nice, especially the older stuff). I didn't see Maiza for most of the day until we went to bed. Looking back on when we were in the library, I don't think she was actually reading anything. I wonder why she wanted to come with me then? Anyway, I'd best be signing off now- it's nearly 9:30

After thousands of years in hibernation, a girl and 199 other children awaken in a supposedly uninhabited world with no recollection of what happened or why she and the others were selected to live, with the only clues being the number tattoed on her arm and the writing on her shirt- "Test Subject 0137- Maiza"
