I sent an email to my band director last friday telling him I'm trans etc (check my last comic about that). So after the weekend after music theory (which is taught by the choir director a room over from the band room, and I have the class before lunch so this convo took up the entire lunch period and then he sent me off with two bags of Doritos he had cause jazz) he called me over and right off the bat said that he's supportive of me. Then he asked about how to pronounce my name, the situation with my parents, and how open I'm ready to be (he said we can take it day by day and figure out stuff together). He also said that if I'm ready to bring it up with a counselor at some point that he'd help and support me, and also clarified that there might be issues avoiding my legal name on band programs and stuff but he'll call me Mi in person (and he's been doing that and everytime he does I get an adrenaline rush like hell), and that eventually other people will just sorta catch on that I'm going by that now. Plus he said that he's never really had to deal with a trans student before and doesn't know how it works (neither do I, how convenient) but hes glad that I felt comfortable enough to tell him and others. Then we talked about tolerance and stuff and he basically said that transphobes need to grow up.
I've always trusted and respected the guy which is why he's the first teacher I told (he was kinda happy about that), and our conversation solidified that for me. I bully him sometimes but he's such a good person and I would die for him
