Lexy was once again looking down on Dream Lexy and Christine. Christine was talking. “You know that I hate and despise you. Why do you keep following me?”
Dream Lexy sniffed. “Wow,” Thought Real Lexy. “I really do need a tissue don’t I?”
“You know that you are always alone and always will be,” Christine said. There was a bright flash of something. Real Lexy had looked up at it and then looked back down.
Christine was seething. “ You will never have any friends,” she yelled.
Dream Lexy had tears streaming down her face. There was that bright flash and again Dream Lexy didn’t notice it. This time the light didn’t go away.
Lexy heard Christine’s voice. “You will never be alone Lexy. Always know that your entire family and I will be with you always!” She was screaming.
Lexy popped awake in a cold sweat. “I remember what I wanted to tell Christine. It was about my dreams.”
Lexy noticed that Christine was glowing. It looked like the same light that had penetrated her dream. The same light that had disturbed Dream Christine.
Just then her bedroom door slammed open. The light that Christine emitted was gone. Lexy realized that she shouldn’t be awake and laid back down. She tried to go back to sleep, but she couldn’t. This reminded her too much of the day Michael died.
“Why, hello. Is there something wrong?” Lexy heard Christine say
“Don’t play dumb with me girl,” Madam Vile seethed.
“I’m sorry. I don’t seem to know what you are talking about,” Christine said. Lexy thought she sensed her being a smart aleck.
“Doesn’t matter. I’ll find out soon enough. Follow me.”
“I’m still not sure what you would like to know but of course. You are an adult; you are trustworthy.”
Madam Vile snorted, “Whatever you say.”
Lexy heard the door slam. She popped up. “I won’t let this happen again,” Lexy thought.
Lexy followed Madam Vile down the hall. They were going to the basement. Lexy knew it.
Again she wasn’t fast enough. The big oak door slammed in her face. But, instead of turning away, Lexy sank to the floor trying to decide what to do.
“Are you a fairy?” Lexy looked up with a start at the voice.
“I believe that you might have confused fantasy with reality. ” That’s Christine’s voice,” Lexy thought. “Why isn’t she just answering the questions honestly? Actually, what brought on these questions?”
“Don’t lie to me Fairy. You must have strong magic to break into my dream spell.”
“Or just a strong enough will.”
Lexy was wondered what was happening. She pressed her ear up against the door. She hoped to hear what was happening.
“Ah. So you admit to being a fairy.”
“I did no such thing. I don’t know what a dream spell is, but any spell, at least in fairy tales, spells can be defeated by strong wills. I believe Lexy is one of those people.”
Lexy felt honored that Christine thought that she was strong-willed.
“Then why was your voice in my dream spell?”
“I don’t know. Shouldn’t you, since you seem to be the expert on those things. Unless, of course, you aren’t.” Lexy heard shuffling.
“Well, since you seem to be ever so sure that you aren’t a fairy, let us bring in Lexy and see if you are who you say you are.”
Lexy heard a thud and Madam Vile laughing.
“I knew you were a fairy. Did you really think that hurtling a book at me would stop me?”
“You will never touch Lexy again. She is getting stronger.” Lexy had never heard Christine seeth before.
Lexy tried to work up the courage to go inside when something stopped her cold.
“I will get rid of you the same way I got rid of her family.”
“You can’t do that to a fairy. Remember, we can change our size.”
Now Lexy was utterly confused. “Did fairies really exist?” she asked herself.
Madam Vile laughed again. “Unless you trap them in any metal.”
“Well, of course. But there is no metal in this room.” Lexy thought that Christine now sounded uncertain.
“Well, my smart little fairy. Would you like to try to shrink?”
Lexy heard a buzz and light was leaking through cracks in the door. Then she heard a thud.
“Owww.” Lexy knew it was Christine.
Then she heard a maniacal laugh.
“I told you. You should have never gotten in my way.”
“I was tasked with protecting Lexy. You shouldn’t have gotten in my way.” Lexy knew that something had changed in Christine. It didn’t sound like her.
“I have had enough of you fairy. It’s time to say goodbye.” By now Lexy thought that she knew that Christine would retort.
But instead, Christine paused. She yelled, “Lexy, remember, I and your family and I will always be with you no matter where we are.”
“Lexy can’t hear you know fairy.”
