Lexy’s head was swimming and all she could see was black. She heard voices getting closer then floating away. All of a sudden, the voices got crystal clear.
“Make sure to keep her safe. And if you need to give her the locket so she can remember us.” Lexy couldn’t pinpoint the voice. A huge room started to appear. It was where Lexy grew up. “Is this a memory?” Lexy asked herself. Her mom and dad grew clear. Her dad was talking quickly with her mom.
“Look, I don’t care what we have to do. We need to keep her safe. She’s too powerful.”
“I can’t just give my daughter away and leave her alone.”
“But is companionship worth her life?”
“Is it worth ours?”
“Of course, you’re right. We could never leave her by herself.”
Lexy’s parents drifted back into darkness.
“I wonder what that was about. It seems though that my parents didn’t want to leave me,” Lexy thought to herself. But before Lexy got too far in her thoughts, she heard a little girl’s voice and what sounded like her brother’s voice.
“Hey, what’s wrong little Lexy?” Lexy heard sniffling.
“You left me by myself, and Raven bullied me.” Lexy saw a small innocent girl with purple hair. Her eyes were red, and snot was dripping down the little girl’s face.
“My little sister.” Michael knelt down. He was wearing his signature flannel shirt and blue jeans. Lexy had almost forgotten that Michael had full brown hair and a sweet smile. Michael lifted up little Lexy’s chin.
“What did she do?” Michael asked as he pulled little Lexy into a hug.
“She said that you leave every day because you don’t love me,” Lexy sniffed.
Michael pulled her into another tight squeeze.“I leave to go to school to learn and I think about you when I’m there. I would never leave you Lexy. I love you!”
Lexy wriggled out of the hug and turned around. “Why should I believe you?”
Michael looked offended. “I would never leave you. Let alone stop loving you.” Michael looked at the house. “I think that I need to have a talk with Raven.” He turned back to Lexy. “But I do love you, Lexy. I really hope you know that.”
Little Lexy turned around. She ran to Michael and hugged him hard. “I know Michael. I just...”
Michael returned the hug. “I know little Lexy. I know.”
The whole scene faded into black. “He must have really loved me,” Lexy thought to herself. “I can’t believe that Michael would want to leave me.” More voices came out of the black.
“Lexy, please tell me what’s wrong. I’m your best friend, please let me be one.” It was Christine’s voice. “I don’t remember this,” Lexy thought to herself.
“I’m fine,” Lexy heard herself say. The scene materialized in front of her. Christine with her light brown hair was staring sadly at Lexy’s back. Lexy had her back turned and was sitting on the bed. Her purple hair was flowing down her back.
“Lexy, you are not fine. Tell me what’s wrong.”
“I just don’t want to talk about it,” Lexy sighed. They were in Christine room. Lexy had just noticed that.
Christine came and sat down next to her on the bed. “Was it Raven again, or was it the teachers this time?” Lexy leaned over and put her head on Christine’s shoulder. Christine put a comforting hand around her.
“It was both. Raven said that I don’t have any friends. And the teachers just didn’t do anything and they notice it.”
Christine sighed. “I know. But you do have friends. Me.”
Lexy lifted her head and turned away again. “Isn’t that weird though? That I only have one friend?”
Christine looked hurt. Just like Michael. “I don’t think that’s weird or wrong. I have one friend too. You.”
Lexy turned around. Tears stained her checks.
“Oh, Lexy.” Christine darted forward and wrapped Lexy in a hug. “Do you feel alone?”
“Yes.” Future Lexy was shocked. She always felt that way but never thought that she would tell anyone that.
“Oh, Lexy, please. You will never be alone.” Christine pushed Lexy back and looked into her eyes. “Do believe me?”
Lexy looked away from her. “I don’t know.”
Christine sighed again. “I’m sorry. I would never leave you alone. Ever.”
Lexy looked back at her. “I do believe you, Christine. I just don’t want people to bully me.”
Christine looked at her intently. “I’m glad that you believe me.”
Again the scene faded into black. Lexy never felt more loved in her life. By her parents, by her brother, and by her best friend. “Of course I love Christine like a sister. She’s been more of one to me then Raven will ever be,” Lexy thought to herself. “I know what I have to do now.”
