Kibo held tighter onto Bren looking to her old master. I glance at them for a brief moment.
“Now you two.”
A smile came to my lips as the man looked pissed seeing them flee. His men started to follow as I blocked their path.
“Not so fast boys. You have to play with me first.”
At this time it was a good thing my mother had me learn all those defensive
and offensive techniques. It always bugged me that I had to take fighting
classes when none of my sisters did. The first man laughed as baring his
claws. Oh, it seemed there was another kitty who wanted to play. I really
didn’t have problems with cats...at least I didn’t before the wolf.
“Now, now boys that is no way to treat a woman.”
The second man didn’t seem to like my remark as he shifted into a 5 foot
leapord. His eyes were fixed on my neck. What an idiot to try there of all
places. As they both come towards me I feel this wave coming over me. My
vision became blurry as my body started to shift as well. The men leap back
gawking at the immensely huge wolf standing before their eyes. Their boss
fell to the ground in sheer disbelief. The wolf looked to the men speaking
with a males voice.
“Hmph..I will not let her be killed. Nor will I let anyone stand in her way while I am still part of her.”
The ancient wolf spirit was grateful she had awaken so he could take control
if needed. The wolf lunged down at all three taking them into it’s mouth
tearing them apart. The sounds of their bones crunching could be heard from
Bren and Kibo.
Bren peeked out to see Lain in her beast form. His eyes widen as she was like
nothing he had ever seen. Kibo glanced around him to see the giant wolf. She
didn’t seem scared but smiled seeing that the man who hurt her was being
eaten. Not even thinking they both walked out looking up to her beast form.
“Why she wants to take on more responsibilities is beyond me. Listen here
you two...Lain is going to be pissed when I give her control back.”
They nodded watching as the huge wolf slowly turned back into the woman.
In the next second they saw Lain run fast towards them. She grabbed their
hands making sure not to stop till Kibo and Bren looked tired.
“Lain...why did we...have to..run....so far?”
Bren was catching his breathe as talking. I sit down on the ground annoyed
just rubbing my head.
“Because that damn pain the ass wolf took over my fucking body. How in the hell does he think that is alright?”
Ugh, I couldn’t belive that just happened. Looking up I see the kids had a
confused look.
“Sorry about that. If we stayed the people in the big city would come out.”
I looked away for a moment then back.
“A ten foot tall wolf is not something that they can over look so easily. I
wanted to make sure you both stayed safe.”
They both gave me a smile as leaning against a boulder.
Kibo crawled over giving me a small hug. I couldn’t help but to pat her head.
“Thank you for everything.”
She had such a soft voice.
“Lain what is this place we are at? It looks like there were some sort of tall buildings once upon a time.”
I looked over to Bren. Have to admit he was observant to notice any of the
structures.
“This is ruins in the forest. They are all over the world to be honest. What I
was taught is that a long time ago humans polluted the earth. They had a
great war with in-humans as well. During these times many places were
destroyed. One day it all came to an end with a great explosion that almost
killed everyone.”
I looked to see their faces were so close while listening to me explain. Letting
out a laugh I lean back as not to knock into either of them.
“It was said that before all the fighting that humans and in-humans lived
in unity. I’m not sure what happened to change it all. I want to find out and
fix this world of ours. To be honest it scares me a little since it will be very
dangerous at times. I’ll understand if you both want to leave from me.”
I looked to the sky letting out a breathe just trying to keep myself calm. For
some weird reason it felt like if they left I would fall apart. I feel two hands on
my leg then look down to them.
“We are here for the good and bad.”
Kibo and Bren nodded in unison. My heart felt like it was warmer knowing
they didn’t want to leave. I knew that in the future it might be hard but at
least they wanted to stick it out.
Bren leaned back just staring at me for a moment.
“Is that why we have such advanced tech but yet some of the cities are like
villages?”
I smile nodding. He was pretty smart when not being so skittish of
everything.
“Yeah, only the big cities have the best of stuff. Although the slums even
look better then the small cities.”
Kibo lays her head in my lap listening to Bren and I talk for a while longer.
Letting them rest was for the best considering how fast I made them run.
That damn wolf if I could beat it up I would. After a while I notice the kids
had fallen asleep. Taking a closer look to Bren he looked to be thirteen. His
face had slight peach fuzz growing on his chin. It was adorable since he was
like a cute little puppy.
Stroking some hair hair from Kibo’s face, I see that she is holding his hand in
her sleep. These moments were precious to me now. If it wasn’t for these
two..would I even be sane I wondered. A smile crosses my lips as leaning into
the tree trunk behind me. This land was filled with so many forest, small
cities, and then the big cities. The big cities were the remnants of the ancient
world they converted to work in our times. It worried me that the elders kept
us in the cycle like they knew something important. Did they know what
caused the great war...or even worse did they cause it?
Letting out a sigh I close my eyes. If we stayed in this area there were about
15 villages before we came to another big city. If possible I would like to avoid
them. In the distance I hear one of the Santis birds whaling as they always do.
If someone had describe them imagine a stork on steroids. They usually
were harmless to people unless you went near their nest. Once in school they
showed us a video.
It was of a man who tried to steal their eggs. Talk about scaring a bunch of
little kids for life. Those birds tore the man apart without mercy feeding on
him. Usually they eat fish but will eat other meat. Just the thought of some
idiot doing that made me feel bad for them. I close my eyes trying to rest
with the kids. Sadly my brain still wanted to be in over-drive right now. How
many more people would end up in my little group? Would we actually find
anything out about the Elders? If we did how would we bring them down?
Ugh...would I stop doing this to myself.
All these things and much more came to mind. After a while Lain manages to
fall asleep. Kibo woke up just sitting there watching her and Bren. She held
onto Lain’s hand with Bren’s like they were her life lines. In Lain’s sleep she
saw a city that looked to have flying vehicles. What was this place? Even in a
dream state she could freely move around.
“Am I really in a dream?”
Her eyes widen seeing Trevor walking down the paved road.
“Wait...Trevor...”
She ran after him trying to grab onto his shoulder. That is when she passed
right through him. Oh yeah this isn’t real..but then how am I seeing this all?
Was this the past or the future? Either way I decided to look around for how
ever long this dream lasted.
This place was amazing. All the people didn’t even care if someone was in a
half beast form. They would talk politely to anyone who spoke. Tears fell from
Lain’s cheek as she reached up touching her face.
“Why am I crying?”
If this was the past then the person who ruined it needs to be punished.
Before she could even look around more a man looked right to her face. He
walked up to Lain with a smile.
“Now, now what has caused such a pretty woman to cry?”
Lain fell over from the shock of him speaking. Wait, he could actually see me?
Nothing else here seemed to even see or sense me.
“Um...you can see me right?”
The man laughed as leaning down to her.
“Yes I do see you.”
He held out a hand to help Lain get up. She thought for a moment then took
his hand seeing if it connected. She looked up at the man in more shock as he
actually was holding her hand. What the hell was going on? The man pulled
Lain to her feet.
“Are you sure you are alright Miss?”
I nodded my head. In all truth I wasn’t even sure if I was alright.
“Where am I?”
The man looked a little stunned. He brushed a strand of blue hair from his
face smiling.
“This is Sachi in the middle of Arcana. You must be very lost to not even know this.”
Those names meant nothing to me. I look around us.
“I...this is too weird.”
The man couldn’t help to stare as Lain looked so confused.
“I’m sorry but I was sleeping then I was here.”
She knew how crazy that sounded but couldn’t help the truth.
