“Charlotte!”, Jonathan screamed and rushed to help her. She was laying on the floor, clutching her chest. A deep cut ran from her left shoulder down to the right side of her hip.
“I’m … I’m gonna be fine”, she gasped, “Bring me my bag, so I can heal myself.”
Sadie hurried, bag in hand and coruched down next to Jonathan.
“Sergeij, you need to get back to the city. Get help, we’ll bring Charlotte outside, so she can heal herself. We’ll try to keep any other vampires at bay.”
The tall man nodded and ran down the stairs.
Charlotte, taking a few gulps from a small plastic bottle full of bright pink liquid, started murmuring her spell.
Sadie carefully picked her up, so to not cause her any more pain.
“Shouldn’t I carry her?”, Jonathan asked.
“No, I need you to protect us. Your sword is going to be more effective than my gun.”
As fast as they could, they began making their way back to the entrance. As they approached the base of the smaller staircase, another howl echoed loudly through the entrance hall.
“Hurry!”, Sadie said, and Jonathan thought he could see genuine fear in her honey eyes for a moment.
Then, without any kind of warning, something dull hit him and he stumbled to the ground, his sword clattering away from him.
“Run!”, he screamed after Sadie, who had slowed down, but from the once empty rooms, more and more people flocked, completely surrounding them. Another hit to his head rendered Jonathan unconscious.
