Chapter – 18
The one hour was excruciating, I finally understood why there were only fifteen students in this class. I thought I was pretty good at Math but, I guess not. My brain had absolutely given up and my body refused to hold itself upright.
My face was flat on the desk and my hands were numb from taking all the notes. I had a week’s worth of homework in just one day!
And also, I had a newfound respect for Hayden, he was almost in the all the advance classes and still alive, not just alive, on the football team, not just on the team but the QUARTERBACK. I’d have to ask him later about his secret.
My distress was further aggravated by the laughing boy beside me.
“Already?”
“Help me, Eric. I can’t do this. I’m not smart enough, I won’t ever be smart enough.”
Eric grabbed my collar and tried to make me sit upright but instead I leaned on his, trying to get all the support I could.
“What is wrong with you?” Eric laughed again.
“Please have mercy and kill me.”
Eric placed both his hands on my head and pried me off his chest.
“This was just the first day. You’ll get used to it.”
“I don’t want to get used to this torture, how is this legal?” I put my hands on Eric’s arms and pulled them off my head so that I could lean on his chest again.
“What if I die, Eric?” I said again after a moment of silence.
Eric ran his hands through my hair and said, “You won’t. I’ll help you.”
I raised my head to look at him, “Really?”
Before he could answer, someone grabbed my arm and pulled me away from Eric.
“I am sure he will but right now, I have some business with Eric.” I turned my head to look into the green eyes that belonged to Hayden Hunter.
“What business?” Eric replied matching Hayden’s rage.
Woah! These two had issues. My primal instinct told me to get the hell out so, I did.
“Well, this doesn’t seem to concern me.” I said trying to slip away but Hayden’s hand was still around my arm.
“Let go?” I told in a very hesitant voice, more like asked his permission.
Hayden mumbled a sorry and I rushed out of the classroom.
School was already over so, I took my backpack and got ready for the long walk. I was dreading the walk being as exhausted as I already was but I had no other choice so, I began walking.
I had been walking for about fifteen minutes when a car slowed down beside me and honked. I looked at the black Mercedes as the front window rolled down.
“Jake, get in!” Alex said.
“I am okay.” I told Alex with a smile. I was about to start walking but the door opened and Hayden got out.
“Get in, Jake.”
I hurriedly opened the door and got in after hearing the undertone of rage in his voice.
“What’s got him in such a bad mood?” Alex asked me.
I shrugged my shoulders and looked at Hayden questioningly.
“Eric happened.” Hayden mumbled.
“Rough.” Alex nodded in understanding.
Wait, what? I am still lost, here.
“What do you mean?”
“Jake and Eric don’t get along.” Alex told me.
“That was the Eric at whose house you stayed over?” Hayden asked me and I meekly nodded with the tips of my ears turning red.
Hayden was not very happy because we covered a 30 minutes journey in fifteen.
In order to escape his bad mood, I hurriedly got out of the car and walked into the house. But I couldn’t escape Hayden, he followed me closely, all the way up the stairs, into my room.
Before I could even say anything I was already on the bed and Hayden right above me.
