Test Subject 0125- Codename Sanji (Chapter 3)

Jun 14, 2019

Day 5:

It’s been a few days since we woke up and for the past three days, the professor has been giving us classes- some of its stuff like English and maths but most of it’s more practical, like building dens in trees or cooking meals. Today was different, though. The professor took us into a locked room that led into another room with an array of weapons lined up on the wall, “Okay everyone,” said the professor, “Today, we’re doing weapon practice- I personally think that you’re too young for this but orders are orders.”

“Orders from who, exactly?” asked Calamity, who was already reaching for a battleaxe with piano keys painted on the side. The professor smiled,

“Still don’t trust me, do you? Anyway, pick any weapon you want and go into the training room on the right.” I picked up a bow with intricate carvings of leaves on the side. Discord just grabbed a huge knife. Maiza was being indecisive (As always) so I suggested a cool pistol with a picture of a fox on the side (She told me that she really liked foxes). A few other kids picked up shotguns and crossbows (I prefer normal bows- crossbows are for normies according to Discord (I have no idea what a normie is but it sounds bad so it’s a good thing I chose a normal bow)) and we went into the combat dome (That’s what Maiza calls it- it isn’t actually dome-shaped but she thinks it sounds cool). When we went in there, there were a bunch of shooting targets and dummies, “Can people with long distance weapons practice on the targets and…”

“The rest of us practice on the dummies, we get it.” Interrupted Calamity, who had hacked off the head of one of the dummies and was now severing it’s lifeless limbs, oblivious to the straw that was flying everywhere and making my allergies act up (According to Discord, I have hay fever). Surprisingly, I hit the bullseye first try, even though I’ve never done this before. Maiza was having a hard time trying to hit the target and I was about to offer to help but Calamity came over first and showed her how to do it, “Try standing sideways while doing it- in a real combat situation, it’ll make you a smaller target.”. Maiza didn’t really look at her but listened to her and started doing better (She even hit the bullseye at one point!). One thing I’ve noticed over the past few days is that things have been tense between Maiza and Calamity and they haven’t really spoken, which is surprising- Maiza seemed keen to be friends with her at first. I thought about asking them about it but they’d probably deny anything happened. We only practised for about 20 minutes before going back to our normal routine. Later in the day, I saw the professor standing in the hallway when I was walking to the dorms. He was looking at a picture of him and a woman with greenish-blue hair. I asked him who it was in the picture. “Noone,” he said, smiling sadly, “Just an old friend of mine, from before you and me the rest of us ended up in this god-forsaken building- away from everything we ever cared about.” He looked back at the picture, ”You kids are lucky, though- Anderson wiped your memories from before, but me? Do I get my memories wiped? No. Do I remember her? Do I miss Celie every single day?” He looked at me as if he’d forgotten I was here, “Sorry about that- just ignore me and my rambling.” He put the picture in his pocket and walked away, leaving me clueless. Celie? Anderson? He assumed Celie was the woman in the picture but he had no clue who Anderson was. He thought about it while walking back and bumped into Calamity on the way, “Hey! Watch where you’re going!”

“Sorry,” I muttered back (Why did she intimidate me so much? I’ve never given her reason to dislike me or anything), “Hey Calamity, could you try to find out anything about some guy called Anderson- the professor said something about him wiping our memories from before and I don’t like the idea of people messing with my brain.” She thought about it for a while, “Anderson- son of Andrew… yeah, I can check the library for anything like that. I was checking for stuff like that a few days ago but I got distracted when Maiza-” She stopped. I looked her in the eye, “Cally- What happened?” She sighed,

“Look, it was nothing- okay? We got into a bit of an argument and she started crying and now she’s really embarrassed about it and I felt really bad afterwards, which is why I’ve been avoiding her too. I’d talk to her about it but I don’t think she wants to talk to me.”

“Cally, I know Maiza- give her a few days and she’ll be the one wanting to talk, okay?” She looked up,

“Thanks, Sanji.” She smiled and walked away. She doesn’t really smile that often- I think her smile’s kinda cute. She has nice hair too- I like the way she ties it in a ribbon- its a sort of juxtaposition to her cold and introverted personality. Anyway, the rest of the day was mostly uneventful so I’ll be signing off now.
