The rain seemed to stop as soon as Blaire slammed her front door shut. She leaned back on it, sinking to her knees. She stared straight ahead at the wall. Marigold came trotting over, jumping up onto her knees. Blaire calmly took out a tuna can and walked to her kitchen. Using a makeshift can opener, she tore off the lid and dropped the can at her feet. Marigold ran straight to it, gobbling it up.
Once she was half done, the little thing sat down and looked up at her. Blaire nudged it back to her with her foot. As Marigold ate, Blaire walked absentmindedly to her room. She fell onto her bed onto her back. She didn’t know what to think.
She was beginning to consider Edmund a friend. Trying to make amends. Apparently it was just some cruel joke on her. She rolled onto her side and looked out the window. Marigold came up and laid beside her. Blaire petted the little head. Blaire closed her other hand into a tight fist. A grumble of thunder sounded in the distance. She quickly turned away.
“Maybe I am a witch” she said to the empty room around her. Suddenly a pounding came from the door. Blaire got up and walked over, already knowing who it was.
“Get away from me Edmund. Can’t you tell when enough damage has been done?” She yelled at the door.
Edmund pounded harder. The door threatened to cave in and fall apart.
“I’m sorry!” He yelled.
“I’m sure you are.”
“I am! I didn’t mean it!”
“THEN WHY SAY IT?” Blaire screamed. She stomped to the door and swung it open. Edmund fell to her feet, looking up at her. “TWICE YOU CALLED ME A WITCH. WHY WERE YOU BEING FRIENDLY TO ME? YOU DID THIS DAMAGE.” She yelled.
Blaire spat down at him. Edmund stood up.
“You still remember? I was a kid! I didn’t mean for this to happen. You think I wanted to make your life miserable. I’m trying to make up for it” Edmund said.
“Kids can still do harm. You didn’t make my life miserable you made it hell for me. Leave me alone Edmund. Nothing you can do can fix the mistake you made.” Blaire said coldly.
She pushed him down and left the house, Marigold chasing after her. She hissed at Edmund. Blaire walked down to the stream, not allowing her emotions to show. Edmund was stunned.
“Blaire wait!” He yelled after her. Blaire stood at the edge of the stream. Edmund ran up behind her. Marigold ran at him, nipping his ankles. Blaire turned to face him.
“I said leave. Me. ALONE!!” Blaire screamed.
The ground seemed to rumble as she continued screaming. Edmund fell down, bringing to panic as he stared at her. The ground...it was glowing. It began to crack and break in a circle around them.
“BLAIRE!!” Edmund yelled, his voice full of fear. Rays of lights broke from the cracks in the ground. Only when Blaire stop screaming did the ground give away and the children fell. Their screams mixing as they did. Suddenly, just as it had disappeared, the ground reappeared. Marigold walked out to where Blaire stood just a moment before.
The only traces left of the kids was a worn copy of Alice in Wonderland.
