“Mister… Hishi?”
“Sao.” Sao replied, pushing his face into Letty’s shoulder. “Call me by my name.”
“I… I can’t!” Letty argued. “You aren’t going to take me in as yours, so you’re still--”
“Idiot.”
“Eh?”
“I said that stupid trash because I was stupid.” Sao replied, sitting back to look Letty in the eye. “I don’t want you going to anyone else. Understand me?”
“Huh? No…” Letty frowned. “Not really.”
Sao sighed heavily, letting go of Letty, pushing his palm to his eye. “What a…”
“Hm?”
“What a stupid thing this is.”
“What… what is?”
Sao sighed again, “Love. It’s so stupid sometimes. How you can see it right in front of you, and let it go so easily.”
“That…”
“Huh?” Sao straightened up, looking at him.
Letty shook his head, “That’s doesn’t mean that love is stupid. It just means that you are.”
Sao stared at Letty for a moment, trying to think what he had just said. Then he closed his eyes, understanding and laughed. “You know… You really were made just for me.”
“I told you that before.”
“Not that.” Sao shook his head. “You were programmed for me, but you… I dunno.” Sao looked away from the machine, toward the window. “Maybe it’s just human nature to believe that this type of behavior from someone you love means that they’re destined to be with you. Even when that’s clearly not the case.”
Letty smiled to him. “Sao Hishi…” Sao turned back to look at him. “Didn’t I tell you before? Dream Machines were made to be human’s companions their whole life.”
“Whole life?” Sao blinked, “Really?”
“Yes.” Letty nodded. “For some reason though, my being a 900-series, my… Being able to learn like a human, allows me to access information I shouldn’t.”
“Like what?”
“Emotions and thought processes other Machines can’t.” Letty shrugged a bit. “Maybe that’s why I was always returned after a time? Because I’m always very devoted and understanding, and concerned about my owner and their well-being.”
“Isn’t that good?”
“Huh?”
