Dressed in a black suit with a crisp white shirt underneath, a young man with a fine boy’s cut came out of a building with a neon sign on it reading in cursive Délicieux Escorté.
“See you guys later,” he said, waving to the woman at the counter. He stretched once outside, looking at his watch. “Not bad, it’s only 3 AM.”
“Leave me alone!”
He looked down the street to the love hotel only a block away. A young man dressed like a punk with bright red hair was shouting at a young man with brown hair highlighted with gold. The punk man looked like he was only in high school, while the other looked like a college student.
“I told you! I don’t need you following me around everywhere I go!” the punk shouted.
“Please, if you go with this man you might get hurt,” the other man tried.
The punk slapped him, “Back off! It’s my life! Be good and wait at home!”
“Something wrong?” the host asked, walking over with a smile.
“Butt out!” the punk shouted, his brown eyes glaring at the host.
The host blinked his ocean blue eyes, “I noticed you arguing and thought I should see if I could help.”
“No, you can’t.” the punk answered, turning to the business man waiting for him at the door of the hotel. “Now get lost.” And the two walked in together.
The host smiled to the one left outside, “I’m Shane Hisei. Are you okay?”
The other looked at him with a blank expression, his eyes just as blue as Shane’s. “He just likes to sell himself.”
“For fun?” Shane blinked. The other nodded. “Oh, well… What are you going to do?”
“Wait for him.”
Shane scratched the back of his hair. “Waiting here isn’t smart. What if you get jumped?”
“Huh?”
“I’d feel bad if you did…” Shane shrugged, “Want to come to my place for the night? I live over there.” He pointed to a tall apartment building farther down the street. “You’d be able to see if your friend comes out.”
“Thank you,” he nodded.
“So,” Shane started walking, watching as the other followed him. “How long have you known that guy?”
“Rogo Sharp,” he answered. “I met him a few weeks ago.”
“Are you dating or something?”
“No,” he shook his head. “His parents got me for him.”
Shane laughed, holding the door open of the apartment building open. “That sounds like you’re a slave, you know?”
The other just shrugged as he walked in. They didn’t say anything more as they left to the elevator and took it to the twenty-second floor. Down the hall, Shane showed the other the way. He unlocked his apartment door and let him in.
“Sorry there’s not much,” Shane apologized.
“Why do you apologize?” he asked as he went in.
Shane shrugged, “I guess it’s just what everyone does.”
“Then, I’m sorry for going in.”
Shane laughed closing the door behind him. “Out that window you can see the hotel.” He quietly watched the other go to the window and knelt down to look out it. “So, what’s your name?”
“Tsuki.”
“Okay…” Shane nodded a bit, taking off his jacket.
His apartment was pretty plain, but cozy. A few stacks of books on the shelves, a simple tv and dvd-player on a table by the wall. Across from the table was a small sofa. Over on the other wall was the kitchen and the door to the bathroom. Then back behind the sofa was a corner of the room closed in by drapes.
Shane sat down on the sofa, looking to his side at Tsuki. “So… Why did you follow… uh.”
“Rogo.” Tsuki answered, not looking from the window. “His parents told me they were concerned about his safety because of his habits.”
“To sell himself, right?”
“Yes.”
“Want a drink?” Shane asked, getting up to go to the kitchen. “I don’t have any beer, but I have soda and water.”
“No thanks.”
Shane got himself a glass of water, drank it and then sat down to watch the late night news. When it started to get light out, he looked over to Tsuki. He was still poised looking out the window intently.
“Not going to sleep?”
“No.” Tsuki shook his head. “I’m waiting for him.”
Shane nodded a bit, “Well, I’m going to sleep. When you leave, could you lock the door?”
“Sure.”
Shane left to the bathroom and changed into a pair of black sweats and a white tee. He quietly went to the drapes, going behind them and lay down onto his futon. He pulled the covers up over him, turning to look down through a crack to see Tsuki still sitting there.
Without much of a care, he just fell asleep.
