Yakron is an abandoned military moon base. It could be mistaken as an asteroid due to its debris around it. There's also a red dust cloud that concealed something. The abandoned and demolished Military base. A ship approached it at a cruising speed. The debris that surrounds the moon would make any inexperienced pilot nervous. Or anyone with a severe midlife crisis rethinks their life choices before plunging in. But this ship and its pilot are not afraid to weave through the debris. The ship looked like it was glazing through the cornfields. As the ship heaves and banks avoiding every floating rock it meets.
As the ship approaches the surface it encounters a new problem, the dust cloud. But the pilot seems to know this moon base like the back of his palm. He set the thrusters not to move the ship against the current. But against the direction of the dust cloud. Letting the thrust become a knife cutting the dust. Which made maneuvering to the surface easy.
Yakron's surface is calm and cold in contrast to the harsh and aggressive route going in. Being on the surface gives a feeling of advancement and abandonment. The ruins of a military base, reduced to rubble. Yet you can still see its former glory as an incubator of soldiers. Soldiers that would defend the planet the moon is orbiting to.
The doors of the spaceship opens, the accommodation folds out. A person walks out of the ship wearing a space suit with a heavy tinted helmet. It looks more of a hazmat suit than a space suit. He was careful as he took his step surveying if the land would sink in, and to see the gravity of the surface. He checks them with care, and he raises his arm to signal whoever is inside to get out. As another person walks out of the ship, he rolls up his right arm so that he can see his holowatch. He taps his holowatch twice and a holographic HUD pops out in front of him. He shuffles through the menu and clicks an 'eye' icon. He took something from the utility belt of his suit. Something shaped like an oblong that's made out of metal and plastic. He clicks the icon on HUD and the oblong transformed into a drone that flew away from his hand.
He looks at the man who stepped out. He was wearing a zipped up worn-out leather jacket body bag with his helmet on. He glances at his watch displaying 'Scanning Please Hold'. He looked back at the man and said "You weren't kidding when you told me we don't need a guide to get inside here"
"It saved us a good amount of credits didn't we?" I replied
"Well the drone just finished scanning and I think we should get going." He said looking at his holowatch that displayed 'Scan Complete Proceed to Route'.
He grabbed the HUD and threw it at me. My holowatch beeps, I turned my palm over and flicked it to reveal the passage way the drone mapped out for us. We proceed taking the path. As we walk we see nothing but rocks and small canyons along the way. But as the map tells us we are getting closer more elements of a military base reveals itself. From the wide runway of the troop carrier, to fuel towers. You could see a lot of history happening to this place, full of memories now reduced to scraps. This scene is not new to us but it doesn't keep the awe about the place.
The HUD beeps and displays '10 Steps Left'. We halted and saw what looked like a trailer with a door in the middle of it, I approached it and took a door opener. This looks like a small cube and works by placing it against a keyhole. Pressing it will allow the door opener to go inside the keyhole hitting all the pins inside the lock. Once all pins hit, a circular button will pop-out. Pressing said button will turn the key opening the door automatically. Hence the name door opener.
I removed the door opener, and we entered in. My partner looks for a power box. It was placed on the lower right corner of the room. He opens it and fixes the busted wiring inside. as he closes the power box the door closes automatically and the room lights up.
"Decompression and Oxygenation begin." the speaker roared as it released a white smoke paired with a loud hiss of air. "Descending to Base." the speakers stated and we felt the room going down, as soon as it touched the lower level the doors opened. The lights turned on showing what was left of the military base.
"I think it's good." My partner suggested.
"Yeah, I think we're good." I replied as I pressed the neck of my helmet collapsing it into a metallic collar.
"Rover I gotta say we may be on a gold mine right now" He said whilst collapsing his helmet.
"What did I tell you Korva? This place is full of untapped resources"
"Well you told me that is your first time in Yakron. But it feels like you know what you were doing." Korva moves forward and I follow him. "I mean the way you move through the debris field and getting us out of the dust cloud. Tell me it's not your first time here"
"As hard is it to believe this is indeed my first time here"
He snicker and we move forward. Looking around for any valuable items but as we moved forward we saw broken tubes. Tubes reminiscent of cryotubes used in medical facilities. My mind was starting to wonder if this is a medical facility or something else. As we pressed on my questions started to get answered. We have stumbled upon what was inside those broken cryotubes and we do not like what we see.
There are some tubes that no longer have fluids. We saw the creatures kept frozen, it resembles a wolf but this has two front legs. At least that is on the ones we saw. Others are rotten to the bone yet what surprises me is that they leave no foul odor of some kind. Korva looks at me worried, is he thinking what I'm thinking?
"So I'll take it that you don't know what these things are?" He asked me worried that we put ourselves in a horror movie.
"No" I replied with a troubling sigh. "I don't think this is a military base"
"Well on the place where we landed the ship was the military base. This I don't know."
I am scared but I don't show it to him, he might think that I'm scared of a job I planned myself "The good news is they're dead." I assured him but mostly myself.
As we moved further in, we saw six tubes with fluids and frozen. Yet the machine has been dead since probably the day it was abandoned. Korva grabs his gun and aims at the tank. I held up my hand and shook my head.
"Why? I need to make sure that they are truly dead"
"If you shoot the tanks, and it bursts, which would then wake a pissed off monster wolf that we don't know what it's capable of. Would you risk it?"
He was agitated but withdrew his gun away. I turned around and then I saw in about ten steps from us a column with an orb in the center of it guarded by lasers. I looked at Korva and he looked at me without any words and attempted to move towards it but I stopped him. I looked around and saw a small pipe, I grabbed it and rolled it across the room and waited for a reaction. He looked at me with confusion.
"A column that has a laser security, who knows when the spike will come out?" I reasoned.
"Seem fair"
We proceeded to the column and got our close look at the orb. It was copper colored and about the size of a softball with three lines that run on its center. I got close to the column, and I took out a wristband putting it in my left hand and on my right hand a debris on my foot. I clenched my left hand and opened which activated the wristband. It gave a little spark and low humming sound. I looked at Korva and said "Are you ready for this?" he looked at me dead on.
I placed my hand closer to the column. The humming got louder and little by little the orb gravitated towards the wristband. As the orb moves towards the laser. The lasers begin to power down. It gives me enough time to position my right hand holding the debris into tossing it in place of the orb. I placed my left hand closer which makes the orb move closer to the wristband. as it was near my palms I tossed the debris in which landed perfectly on the stand and I am holding the orb.
Korva was surprised by what I pulled off. He smiled and I grinned like a sly fox. "This could be a high price item" I tossed it to him and he examined the orb.
"Look antique yet advanced, why don't we give this to the black market and see how people will riot for this?" He tossed it back to me.
But when the orb landed by my hand the three lines on the middle separated. They reveal a glass container glowing green. I look worried and confused on what to do, should I drop it or put it in the bag. Korva looks worried
"That does not look good" He tries to touch it but is hesitant.
"Well it's green. Green is good right?" I try to diffuse the tension.
"How about you close it down?" He put his hand closing the orb.
A green flash pulsed out of the orb. Korva was shocked and so was I. I looked around to see if anything happened which I am glad that nothing happened. But as I looked at the column I saw the debris reduced to rubble. The stand immediately elevated and the floors rumbled. We look at each other and at the floor as cracks begin to show. In a flash the ground on where I stood collapsed neither of us had time to react and I fell down.
