Okay so I'm taking a break between the "Love" thing to talk about something that happened recently that I think is really important. So on the last day of pride month (June 30th) I decided to come out to my aunt and uncle. Now they're very religious and traditional so I was expecting a response along the lines of "We don't agree with it but we'll try to understand it because we love you." 

Spoiler alert: That didn't happen. So I said "I'm bisexual" and then my uncle put his hand on top of mine and said "Look at me," and for a second I thought 'Wow, he's surprisingly supportive, which is really nice.' But then he said "How do you know?" and my spirits just sank. I tried to explain how it had always been a part of me and something I was aware of even when I tried to stifle it. 

Then my uncle asked me if I had ever had sex with anyone--which is a very awkward topic to talk about, especially with your uncle--and I said no. I should probably mention that I'm a teenager, which makes more sense as the story continues. 

My uncle then said that I couldn't know I was bisexual since I haven't had sex before. He said that I was just full of hormones and that lots of people my age got curious about things too. This angered me, so I said "Did you not realize you were straight until you had sex?"

He responded in a way I had not expected. He said "When I was your age I was confused too, but then a few years passed and my feelings settled down." Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I've never heard of anyone whose sexuality changes over time. If you're attracted to people of the same gender you aren't suddenly going to become straight.

Anyway, I'm still upset about this.
