The earliest record mentioning the hanging gardens were written by Josephus, a Roman-Jewish historian who lived in the 1st century BCE.
His text, in turn, mentioned another text (now lost) written by Berossus, a Babylonian writer/priest/astronomer who lived in the 3rd century BCE.
