I tried not to say anything
During breakfast.
My sisters ignored me
As they chatted
Among themselves
While I ate
The sea lettuce
And sherry fruit
With my head held down.
This continued on
Until the bell-tole
Chimed
Its sweet melody
Throughout the palace.
“Great breakfast everyone,” King Tsunarius grinned, “And have a wonderful day.”
He waved,
Signaling that
We were able
To leave.
I swore I moved
Faster than a seas current,
Bolting out
The large coral door
And back down the Peacock stoned hall.
I twisted and turned
And moved
In and out of the servants
And Hearts
That were floating about
The many halls
Until finally
I spotted the exit.
I inhaled
Making a great push forward,
The blueness of the sea
Called out to me
And the closer I came
The louder the chattering words
Of The Imperfects were.
They laughed
They talked
They sang
And I wanted to be there with them!
“I’m free!” I practically sang, twirling out of the great entrance.
Instantly
The cold water
Gripped onto my body
Jolting me awake.
I stopped
At the tip of the magnolia mountain,
Which was the foundation
The palace was built on
And eyes the dazzling kingdom below.
If I could,
And Nyx knows,
I would love with them,
The kingdom that is filled
With the disfigured,
The broken,
And all those they call
Ugly.
