At my request, the nurses brought up a chaplain. (A/N: A chaplain is a member of the clergy attached to a private chapel, institution, ship, branch of the armed forces, etc.) Caleb glances at me, surprised at my sudden decision. "Are you sure?" he asked me. I nodded, fully on board.
"Unless you don't want to... " I trailed off. He broke into a goofy, lopsided grin.
"Of course I do. I've wanted to for years," he informed me, his voice sounding slightly strained from the pain he was going through. I borrowed some rings from the couple next door.
The chaplain said a couple verses, binding us in marriage. Everybody laughed with glee as tears roll down our cheeks and drip slowly onto the floor. I smiled at the bittersweet moment. I had a feeling for what would soon happen.
I looked into his eyes, and declared, "I want you forever, forever and always. Through the good and the bad and the ugly. We'll grow old together, and always remember. Whether happy or sad or whatever. We'll still love each other, forever and always."
His voice is almost too low. Too breathy. Too pained. I could barely hear him. I kneeled down next to him. He pressed his lips to my cheek and brought himself near my ear so I could hear his words. Caleb, with his final breath, told me, "I'll love you forever, forever and always. Please just remember even if I'm not there."
(A/N: I very recently watched an animatic about this song. I almost cried. I was just sitting there like, "What the hell?!" because I rarely cry. Anyway, this was sad... I'm sorry I can't exactly add emotional attachment from the characters to the readers, but this is supposed to be a short story and I'm not a really good writer.)
