We traveled among the cold distant stars,
Crafted with care by wonder-bloated hearts
Wandering where those inquisitive eyes
Dared not tread for their fear of that darkness.
"Curiosity," "Phoenix," and "Spirit,"
Full of anxious uncertainty, and yet
Those many faithful and believing eyes
Bestowed upon us hopeful, loving names.
Freezing and alone, we wander this place
Knowing we cannot return there to them.
But somewhere, those hopeful and watchful eyes
Assure our safe passage with bated breath.
Months and seasons pass, we remain the same,
Lone pathfinders, securing your future.
When someday you mourn our loss, remember
Those hopes and dreams we carried to the stars.
We thank you for this, "Opportunity."
