Greer Smith was arguing with the poor receptionist for the last 5 minutes. It was truly the strangest argument the woman had ever been apart of. Ms. Brown took a breath and let it out before speaking again.
“Well Miss Smith if you want a prescription for your powers then-“ She was quickly interrupted by the very tall, short haired woman.
“That’s not what I said at all! I want my so called powers removed from record! I don’t have any! It’s all a big mistake…” Greer pushed back the shaggy honey colored mess of hair and sighed. “Please… can you just…”
Ms. Brown sighed. This was above her pay-grade. “Miss Smith, I’m sorry but you are out of luck,” Greer seemed to be happy to hear that, “and Mr. Collins will not be available until very late as he has meetings all day.”
Greer smiled, folding her muscular arms in front of her loose green shirt. “Not a problem! I’ll wait. I brought snacks just in case.”
She turned to find herself face to face with two gentlemen, one whose badge read 'Holmes' and the other read 'Collins'. Mrs. Browns voice perked up. “What luck Miss Smith, Mr. Collins if you aren’t busy Miss Smith would like to do a complaint about her power registration.”
Mr. Collins looked. “Well I have all afternoon. My appointments were canceled about 10 minutes ago. Now what is the complaint miss?”
Greer cleared her throat. “Ah well… I’m Greer Smith sir… only one in the system.” She watched as he pulled her up on his secure device. “And I’m listed as having luck based powers but I really DON’T…”
Sato was listening carefully. It was rare anyone claimed they didn’t have such abilities. They normally were a problem as they’d get into betting and gambling or become adrenaline junkies and push the limits too far. It was more likely they’d come in and beg forgiveness for going too far. Yet, here was someone trying to claim they had nothing at all.
Mr. Collins nodded. “Hmm well we can look over your case file…. You must have been waiting for most of the day.”
Before Greer could say anything Mrs. Brown spoke up, causing Greer’s face to fall. “Oh no sir, she’s only been here for about 8 minutes or so. She left her hotel and walked over from what she told me about 15 minutes before that.”
Mr. Collins looked to her and furrowed his brow. “Miss…. I do not appreciate those with abilities trying to hide their nature from the government. We have this system for a reason. Just because you want to trick others with your abilities, doesn’t mean we’ll look the other way.”
Greer’s eyes went wide. “But I’m not! I’m telling you! I don’t have any powers! Please sir…. If I was that lucky you would have listened to me and granted it already!”
Mr. Collins sighed. “There are a lot of reasons that may not have worked. I’m sorry but you will remain in the system. And we will be watching you closely for abuse of your powers. Now Sato, if you could have those reports on my desk by tomorrow please. I’ll go over the results with you then. I’m going to enjoy an evening with the grand-kids.”
Greer watched as he walked off. For someone so big and intimidating, she looked like a puppy that had been kicked.
“…but I spent the last of my cash to get here and already checked out…” She shoved her hands in her jeans and started to head out.
Sato looked and thought a moment. “Excuse me… Miss? I would like to have a talk with you…. And I may have a couch I can offer for the night.”
