Fuck. There's still so much I want to do with my life. Is this really my fate? To become whale food? No. I refuse. This can't be the end!
A sudden booming sound pierced my ears as light flooded the sub. A sensation of intense heat cooked my body for only a second. Then red. All I could see out of the sub's front window was red. Am I dead? The redness dissipated and returned to blue. Chunks of meat were falling from above as creatures from below came up to eat them. Followed by large green scales and a huge eye. The whale had obviously died, but why? I was still in shock sitting there, my ears ringing from the ferocious bang. Slowly my senses came back for me to hear Mr. Gjalund yelling at me to get moving before another one comes and actually eats us. The sub began to move. One headlight was broken now. We ascended once again. Still fear in my soul, I opened my mouth:
"Mr. Gjalund, w-what was tha-that?" I said with my voice nearly breaking.
"That was a demon,"
After that I drove in silence. It was a disgusting silence, the kind of silence when you've just finished running from a monster and all you can hear is the rapid beat of your own racing heart and the breath of the creature looking for you. Are you going to get away, or is it going to find you? Are you going to feel the breath of the monster on your back as you turn around and get eaten?
My imagination was running wild. Did that really just happen to me? What was real and what wasn't? But regardless, I had to pay attention to what was happening now. I almost hit the wall (I don't think Mr. Gjalund noticed though). A mechanical arm came out of the wall and attached itself to the airlock of the port. Again a slight breeze came into the sub. It was like a sigh of relief. We had made it back safely.
"I'm going to use the restroom now, is that okay?" I said as I also stepped out of the sub.
"That's the least we can do for all the trouble we've put you through," Mr. Gjalund said with a trembling voice.
His statement confused me. What did he mean all the trouble we've put you through? It wasn't his fault that a whale tried to eat us.
"What?" I asked.
"Oh... nothing" he replied
"Also, where is the bathroom?" I asked
"Um, it should be down the hall and to the left," he replied
"Okay, thanks," I awkwardly said
Slowly, I walked down the hall. Step after step, each one more difficult than the last. It felt like I was going to fall over and just die. My legs were so wobbly from the fear of being eaten and crushed by that whale filled my entire being. I fell on the floor, a loud crash echoed through the halls. A woman in a long white lab coat came out of one of the rooms.
"Sir are you okay?" She asked.
"I'm fine, just a little lost," I replied.
"So you're not supposed to be here either, huh," she said.
"Well, I'm just looking for the restroom, then I'll be on my way, but if you're not supposed to be here, why are you here?" I asked.
Her face turned red and she looked flustered.
"I am here as a spy for the ... the Lymurian Research group..." she said sounding confused.
"Um, I don't really care. Could you help me up though?"
She slapped her own forehead. I didn't know anything about what she was talking about. What is a Lymurian? The only thing this lady did was confuse me. She pulled me up. I used almost no force though. She pulled up almost all my weight, which was surprising considering how skinny and frail she appeared.
"Thanks," I said.
"No problem," she softly replied.
I turned around to properly thank her before running off to the bathroom, but she was already gone. I walked down the hall until it forked. I took a left like Mr. Gjalund said and saw the bathroom. Finally I could use the restroom. It felt so fucking good to relieve myself. Nearly all the fear in my body was gone. I could stand again without wobbling. But still something bothered me. Who was that girl, what did Mr. Gjalund mean by all the trouble that he caused me, why did an Aquarian Gigawhale try to eat me, and what the hell is a Lymurian? So many questions and so little answers. What was going on?
All these thoughts filled my head as I walked down the hall back to my sub. I only looked down at the floor, and felt like I was going to cry, not from fear anymore, but from sadness and frustration that I was so helpless and lost in this situation. You know what? Fuck this shit. I don't care about rules anymore, and I feel like I already know too much, so I'm gonna keep digging for more and more information until I know everything. And I mean everything. This colony was probably built upon lies and I'm going to find the truth.
Feeling more confident in myself and my abilities I looked up. The lights in the hall had been dimmed, and you could even say that some of the lights have been turned off. It was creepy, and it felt like something horrible was going to happen. But I didn't care, my new found pride held me up as I continued to look forward. Then I noticed as the hallway curved around the building a bright light pouring out of one of the rooms. Small animals gathered around the window where the light was, as though they found something too. It was the room I fell down in front of and the room that that woman came out of. As I walked closer the light intensified and grew. I need to know what that "Lymurian Research group spy" was looking at.
I walked into the room. Everything was white. The walls, floor, ceiling and all the equipment was all white. And a cold mist covered the floor, like a blanket of snow that one could walk through like nothing was even there. I couldn't see my feet anymore from all the mist. But I still continued. A tall cylindrical structure stood in the middle of the room. It was literally covered in ice, and I couldn't see inside. It seemed to be the source of the mist. I slowly wiped the side of the structure, flakes if ice falling off as I rubbed my hand against it. My hand was red from the cold. It was glass under all that ice. So I looked inside. It was a girl. A young girl, maybe in her 20's with white hair and pale skin. She was frozen in layers of thick ice. Not knowing what to do I started walking backwards. My foot slipped on some ice covered by the mist. I fell, backwards and-
