A Spark in the Darkness

Chapter Two

Chapter Two

Aug 09, 2019

Jack's Pov

I can’t believe the elders are making me go to this school to look for sparks, I thought. I ran my hand through my black hair. Looking around me, I watched the students hurry around trying to get to class on time. I see no point in trying to go to a class that I won’t be in for a long time. I was leaving the minute the I found whoever was leaving the energy signal.

Energy signals are what sparks leave behind in the spaces around them. They can be traced by those signals as well, making it easier on me and the other trackers to find them and take them back to the village.

I wander into the office to get my schedule that I'll probably only use for a week. I came here after tracing a strong energy signal, hoping to find whoever they were quickly. Find them before we got attacked . There was a dark force coming and we didn’t know how to fight it. We needed more warriors and quick. We needed them before there was no more of us to train them.

I walked down the hall to find my first class. I was looking for the door when I felt the energy again. It was all over this school, but right here it was the strongest I have ever felt. I felt the pull towards a classroom door and low and behold it was my first class. I strode through the door and let it slam shut behind me causing most people in the room to jump. I looked at the teacher then turned my gaze to the startled class in front of me. Casually, I looked around the room trying to pinpoint the person releasing such an energy signal.

I was surprised to see the energy was coming from a small girl. She was pretty, but didn’t seem to be all that special. Why would she have such a strong signal. I spun on my heel to look at the teacher and said, “ Hi , I’m Jack Parker. I’m new here.” She looked towards her desk then walked towards it and grabbed her computer off the desk.

“ Ah yes Mr. Parker you can sit next to Josie. Josie raise your hand.”

Gazing around the room, I saw the girl from earlier had raised her hand. Smirking, I strolled to the desk next to her and sat down. I could feel her curious gaze on the side of my face. “ Is there something you want,” I whispered to her. She turned away quickly, blushing all the way down her neck. I smirked to myself, satisfied that she was flustered just by my speaking to her.

Well this is going to be fun.
