Josie's pov
Cole walked me to class before heading to his own. I greeted the teacher before finding a seat towards the back of the class and claiming it as mine. Mrs. Jenkins had just started class when a large bang startled everyone in the room. In the doorway was a boy, probably 17, with black hair and dark eyes standing there gazing around the room. His gaze stopped on me. It felt like he was staring right through my face and into my soul. After a moment's pause, he turned to the teacher and said,
“ Hi , I’m Jack Parker. I’m new here.”
The teacher looked at her computer for a moment before nodding and said, “ Ah yes Mr. Parker you can sit next to Josie. Josie raise your hand.”
Oh god, why me? , I thought to myself before raising my hand. The boy, now known as Jack, Strutted to the seat next to me. I studied his face from my seat. He had an angular jaw. His hair was wavy , almost curly on the side. I realize I’ve been staring right when he tilts his head to look at me.
“ Is there something you want,” he whispered to me. I looked away as quickly as I could, but not before seeing his self satisfied smirk. I could feel myself blushing all the way down my neck. Oh god, he saw my staring. He must think I’m such a weirdo. I concentrated on my work before noticing that I had no idea what was going on. I leaned over to ask Jack what’s going on.
“ What is she talking about,” I questioned.
“ I have absolutely no clue,” he muttered back.
“ Great,” I said sarcastically to myself. I guess I didn’t say it quietly enough cause I saw a smile grace Jack’s lips before it disappeared. I started to pay attention to the teacher when I felt someone was staring at me. I looked around the room for the culprit, but I came up empty. Just as I was about to turn back to the front of the room I glanced out the window and saw something that didn’t make any sense.
A man outside the window was looking at me with a strange intensity. His lips moved like they were saying words , but I couldn’t make out what they were. Just as I was about to say something to the teacher, the man brought his hands up. In his hands was something I couldn’t explain. In the palm of his hand sat a fireball.
I was knocked out of my seat by a sudden force just as the window next to Jack seat exploded. The force of the hit knocked the wind out of me and I had to catch my breath. All around me I could hear the screams of terror that my classmates let out. A movement to my left caused me to look over and see the person who knocked me out of my seat was Jack.
“ Come on we have to go,” He said forcefully, dragging me up from my position on the floor. He pulled me out of the room by my wrist.
“ Where are we going?” I was talking frantically. “ What just happened.”
“ The darkness has found you and we need to get away from here as quickly as possible.” I’m so confused. What did he mean darkness.
“ What darkness? Who caught up to us? Jack what is going on? I don’t even know you?”
“ I’ll explain when we’re somewhere safe.” With that note he pulled me out of the building and to his car.
