Yea, Serena was considered a stoic but fair and open minded mentor figure for many people, especially Jade. Despite formally being on opposite sides (Serena fighting for the Republic and Jade with the Union), Serena still saw Jade as a friend/student, and Jade not having anyone left, saw Serena and her team as the closest thing she had left to a family.
That's why it pained her so much to see her destroyed rosarius. Even though she was deceived into doing so, Jade technically did take actions that ultimately lead to her death. Despite no one blaming her for what happened, it still haunts her.
A Steven Universe Spin-off story telling a more grim tale of the events and conflicts that sparked from the actions of the first Gem War, taking place in the realms of the Andromeda Galaxy.
