Didn't care much for my shoes at the time as they were shoes I usually used for mowing the lawn; they were already heavily stained green.
The next day however, one of the people we were staying with had scrubbed my sneakers cleaner than when I went first arrived; Mom asked me if I had bought new shoes while I was in Cuba.
Nope!
