Jack's pov
I could see her struggling to understand what I had told her. Many recruits do at first. While she was processing what I told her, I sat quietly studying her face. Her face was interesting to me. She had little imperfections that made her more beautiful. Her freckles were light brown and splattered across the bridge of her nose and her cheeks. She had little dimples in her cheeks from frowning as she thought. She was really beautiful.
Wait, what am I thinking? I’m going to drop her off at the training center then leave and never see her again. As I looked at the emotions flying across her face, I wondered what she thought about the bomb I just dropped on her. She could either believe what I had told her or go into a state of denial so strong she would be convinced she imagined the whole thing. I really hope it’s the first option and not the second.
After a couple of minutes my eyes wandered down to the watch on my wrist. Wincing at the time that was shown, I tried to think of a way to nicely hurry along her thoughts on the subject. We really need to get Out of here if we want a clear shot back to base.
I cleared my throat, hoping that it would be enough to snap her out of her thoughts. She flinched slightly at the noise that invaded the formerly quiet room.
“ We need to get going,” I announced getting up from my chair. I was happy to see that she had stopped trembling. It was a good sign.
“ Go? Go where?” Her voice was stronger now. Not the slightly trembly tone it was before.
“ We need to get to base before the guy from before catches up with us. I don’t want to have to defend you again without backup.”
She stood up sharply. It was so sudden that I wasn’t expecting it.
“ Do you expect me to just go to a place I’ve never been with a guy that claims to be the good guy. For all I know you could be the bad guy and the other guy was trying to kill you before you killed me.”
My eyes narrowed.
