LEÓN
"These writers are getting on my nerves." The man groaned slamming the drafts in front of him.
"Trouble?" I smirked.
"Why do I even bother with them?" The man spoke before blowing a puff of smoke from his cigar.
I proceeded to open a window to the view of a busy afternoon street. I began to space out as the man rambled about five deadlines he had to meet and how his writers were putting in no effort. Which wasn't even true, to be honest, it was just him.
"Mr. Neel, do you mind if I leave early today? I have important things to do." I interrupted his banter.
Mr. Neel pushed on the table with his cigar as it went out, " Is it a woman?" He teased.
"No, Neel, and those women you saw me with the other day were coming to thank me for pulling you away when you were obnoxiously drunk." I said firmly and rolled my eyes.
"Whatever, kid." Neel ignored my comment.
A college senior working for a 45-year-old drunk wasn't the best, but it paid well and you get used to it.
This was going to be a long day at the office, and of course, the morning burst in from Ms. Violet Woods still accrued. Woods opened the door with such force the paintings placed on the walls shook with intensity as she smacked more paperwork on Neel's desk. One day she would make the whole building crumble.
"Actually finish these this time, and don't give me any of your damn excuses." She roared
Violet was one of the few strong-willed and hardheaded people I knew that could deal with Neel's acts. Neel knew not to mess with her, especially when it came to his flirting. Violet wouldn't think twice about drop kicking his ass.
"Right," Neel sighed and analyzed the papers.
Violet's eyes shot up at Neel's movements. Her eyes were like amber daggers ready to pierce your heart at any second. She seemed more ticked off than usual, which was surprising.
She forced a smile across her lips, " Well, Mr. Neel, the deadline is two weeks from now."
Her raven black hair swayed behind her and when our eyes met her pupils widened. She halted to a stop and I stood there confused, while Neel whore his classic smirk on his face.
"Handsome, isn't he Ms. Woods?" Neel gawked and tapped his pencil against the table.
The sound seemed to shock Violet back into reality, "N-Not what I was trying to gesture, idiot!" She seemed flustered and her face filled with rouge before she turned away.
"Anyways, I'm Violet Woods, and who might you be?" She asked after she regained her composure.
"Oh, I'm León Tayga. Nice to meet you, Ms. Woods." I said while placing a hand in my pocket.
"Well, I better get going. It was nice to meet you too, call me Violet okay?" She replied and cleared her throat after leaving the room.
Neel began to chuckle, "No one throws her off guard. I think she's taken a liking to you, kid."
I scrunched up my nose, "You think so?"
...
The streets were busy as always, but the blinking lights and soft noises faded as I walked each step in the darkness. My body became tense and burning hot. My head was pounding as my vision blurred, "These damn migraines again."
I grabbed onto a nearby wall that lead to an alleyway. A dark, murderous creature flashed in and out of my mind. A beast just like the one who consumed my mother 10 years ago. A sudden sound echoed through the alley and a purple tinted light blasted two odd-looking men against the wall.
A black haired maiden appeared with her hair swept across her face. Amber eyes glowed in the darkness, and I swore I had seen them somewhere before.
Violet Woods.
