Another motel, maybe it was less seedy than the last one, or maybe it was just better at hiding it. There was a tired looking woman behind the counter and she barely batted an eye at them as they checked in.
Or maybe Emmett wasn't paying much attention to those things. He found himself taking note of the location of the payphone, a gas station across the street, Tab's hair stirred by the breeze.
Does he even want me like that? Emmett lit another cigarette. Tab had gotten the non-smoking room this time like he'd wanted. Emmett leaned on the wall outside of the door, letting it burn away between his lips. Tab was already inside, freshening up.
Despite his embarrassment earlier, Tab hadn't made it clear whether he did want to continue things where they'd left off.
"Hey, Emmett?" Tab poked his head through the open door of their room. "Did you want to find someplace to eat nearby?"
"I'm not hungry." Not for food anyway.
"You sure?"
He looked a little sad but Emmett didn't want to repeat his diner experience so soon. Better to just not eat. "Maybe next time."
Tab went back into the room a moment before coming out with his phone and wallet. "I could bring something back for you again if you want."
"Nah."
"Alright." He turned to leave.
"...Tab."
The kid spun around looking hopeful. Emmett took a drag from his cigarette, let the wind slowly carry the smoke away. Tab waited. Emmett's face slid into a smirk, that one he'd always used in photoshoots, that one that let him get his way.
"Kiss me before you go."
Tab must have expected something to that effect. Even though his cheeks reddened and his eyes went round he didn't look completely taken aback. He came back to stand before Emmett, forced to crane his neck back to look him in the eye.
Emmett leaned down, cupped Tab's jaw with his free hand to pull him closer. "Don't be a bitch about it either."
Tab's eyebrows quirked at that. Annoyance? Pain? Emmett didn't want to think about it. He closed those few inches between their faces, pressed their mouths together.
Tab tried to pull away. Too soon. Emmett held him in place. Tab made a sound like a distressed animal when he parted his lips, slid his tongue inside.
He hadn't pushed him away yet.
Cute.
Tab jerked against his grip, only breaking free enough for a heated gasp for air. How does a 20-year old not know how to kiss without suffocating? He chuckled.
Hands clawed desperately at his shirt and he thought for sure that meant the end of their fun but with it came a push that planted his back firmly against the building.
Tab hadn't broken their kiss yet. He was trying to take the lead and Emmett let him. It was how he preferred things, even if Tab's attempts were amateur at best. He was trying too hard to do "something".
Abruptly, Tab broke things off, taking a couple steps back, breathing too heavily. Emmett smirked again, wiping a trail of spit that had somehow made it down his chin. “You kissed me back.” If Emmett was a cat he would have been purring.
"I didn't think you'd let me breathe again if I didn't." Tab let out a few more deep breaths and Emmett waited, wondering what he would do. The kid glanced up at him, blushing brightly when they made eye contact, before quickly turning away. “I’ll… be back later.” He turned on his heel and rushed away, not giving Emmett the chance to call him back again.
He couldn’t help but chuckle again. How long had it been since he’d been with someone so inexperienced? Probably never, actually. His ex came to mind again. He’d always known what he was doing.
He tried to push him away again, even if he’d been the reason that they’d stopped in the first place.
Emmett looked to his hand, noticed his cigarette was no longer there. It was there on the ground, dropped in the heat of the moment. He ground it into the asphalt with his foot and immediately lit up another one.
