“Yo.”
“Hello.”
Now, where was I? Right, there’s something that I... Wait, who just spoke to me? I thought I was alone in this room. Maybe the nurse had come back and I did not notice her entry because I was deep in thought? No, that is not possible.
“Why are you spacing out?”
Thus, now I had identified the source of the voice, I look towards my left. Indeed, I noticed that there was something, hovering at the blind spot of my eye.
It was Angel, crossing his legs in a sitting position. However, he was hovering... in the air... which did not make any sense. Moreover, even though he has not made any changes to his color scheme, he somehow manages to annoy me even more than before. Still completely clad in white, he did the incomprehensible.
Angel was wearing a full generic doctor getup, screaming “I’m trying to fit in with the theme of the place.”. To me, it also screamed, “I have a terrible sense of humor.”. Because I just did not want to think that he was actually that dumb.
“How long have you been here?”
“Hm? Uh... I Never really left, so...”
I guess when I said it was just me and the nurse, I was mistaken.
“Well, don’t you “yo” me. What are you doing here? I thought you have your own place to be.”
“Aren’t you the slightest bit happy to see me?”
“That was not my question, Angel.”
“Sheesh. Hmm, let’s just say that I've been temporarily demoted to a “Guardian Angel” for the time being. Now instead of Angel, you can call me Guardiangel for short.”
“First of all, that’s longer than your previous nickname, which defeats the point of having a nickname. Secondly, demoted?”
“Babysitting an entirely inelegant woman for the next 120 hours doesn’t sound like a promotion to me.”
“It’s not like I want to see you in a doctor’s getup for the next 120 hours either.”
“Oh, don’t worry, I won’t be using this costume when we’re out of the hospital.”
“You know that’s not what I mean, right?”
“Ah! It seems it is time to take your medicine, Ms. Gwen. 100g of elegance and 1 tablespoon of suppleness.”
“If there’s anyone that needs any sort of medicine, it’ll probably be the man in cosplay.”
“Oh! Let’s not forget about your anti-biotics. Here, your prescription for the rude flu.”
“...”
God of this world is truly unfair.
…
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, I will be making my way home now.”
“We have just reached your guardian. Considering that it’s already quite late, maybe…”
“It’s fine. I'll have to ready myself for school tomorrow.”
“I understand. We will further inform your guardian. Please be careful on your way home. Also, immediately come for a checkup if you feel anything out of place.”
“I will.”
I found myself standing right outside the hospital building, covered by the slightly illuminated darkness. My eyesight was only helped by the streetlights and the shine of my phone’s screen. The hospital’s receptionist was not lying; it was already late.
For some reason, I managed to get checked out from the hospital with little to no effort. It was a tad weird seeing how they let me off so easily. Because, apart from being biologically healthy, there really was not much of a reason why my condition did not alert them to take further precautions. A high school student just got hit by a car after all. And if anyone would have judged this, the staffs of the hospital cannot be called much of a professional.
Nonetheless, this aligned with my interests. Knowing that there was a limited time to my quest, I could not manage to waste time bedridden in the hospital.
“I didn’t know you like school that much, Gwen.”
Angel who was currently hovering right beside me suddenly spoke, now in his previous all-white suit, keeping the promise that he had made before.
When did he even have the time to change outfits?
“In any other circumstances, there will be no doubt in me that I will choose to rest in the hospital rather than attending school.”
Without further questioning the unimportant, I chose to answer Angel with a tone that told him firmly of my stance.
And after hearing my answer, Angel looked up towards the dark sky as if he was stargazing. However, as I watched above me, tonight seemed particularly cloudy.
“So... You mean that there’s something you should “change” at school?”
Acting like a wise-guy, Angel cracked a question that suggests his knowledge of my way of thinking.
And I got to say, even if I were not fond about admitting it, Angel was quite a sharp individual. Of course, I have not known him long enough to make an accurate judgment. Yet under a short amount of time, he has already managed to make some noticeable remarks.
“That’s one conclusion.”
I only could find myself agreeing with what Angel has said, knowing that the school was one of the places which I immediately thought of. And how could it not? The school is where I spend most of my time. It is only logical to start from there.
Seemingly satisfied, Angel did not reply to my statement, transitioning to another topic instead.
“By the way, I technically paid for your hospital bills.”
Still acting like a smart-ass, Angel chuckled proudly, pleased with what he had done.
As much as his attitude was starting to get to me, at least he managed to answer one of the things that baffled me. The fact that I do not have a subscription to any insurance, and the fact that the hospital let me go without paying, was definitely some puzzles that I could not solve.
“And if you’re paying attention, your phone seems to be in a spiffy condition, isn’t it?”
Continuing his previous manner, he continued to state another fact that showcased his magical powers. But again, whether he was conscious of it or not, Angel answered another question of mine, suppressing me from completely lashing out at him.
Considering that I was fatally hit by a car’s mass, most of my belongings that I was carrying on the time of the incident, should have probably been utterly destroyed. And something as fragile as a phone could not have survived a crash of that magnitude intact.
And so, with the sight of miracles coming one after another, there was only one conclusion that I could make to summarize what Angel had done.
“So, you just miraculously magic everything up?”
I spoke to Angel with a disinterested tone, trying not to encourage his act even further by admiring his feat.
“You make it sound like I'm a con artist.”
And seeing as how I paid no mind to him, the expressionless Angel squinted his eyes, emitting his disbelief through his wrinkling eyes. But even if the motive behind his eyes movement was to guilt-trip me for being ungrateful, my mind was firm.
“I’ll take that as a yes.”
Now through words, I affirmed him even more. And knowing that changing my mind was an impossible task, Angel sighed in acceptance.
“You’re welcome.”
It was quite amazing that Angel can do all these things and made it seem natural. Wherever this magical prowess originated from, the power to originate money, fixing broken things, and also to alter one’s mind, is quite dangerous. If any humans would ever gain hands on it, imagine what damage could it bring to the world. But I guess the fact that Angel was… an angel, allows him to not be ruled by the usual greed of men.
“Don’t you know that you can ruin the economy if you just poof money out of nowhere.”
“Agh, don’t mind the details! And yikes, I’ve never heard a high school girl jabbing with economic concepts before.”
“Apart from my sense of humor, isn’t that just common sense?”
“That’s why you aren’t cute, Gwen.”
As Angel was pissing me off, I did not give him another reply for the matter. Well, I did not really care that he told me I was not cute. I was pissed about another thing.
“You can do miracles and be witty. But giving me a hint seems to be out of your competence, huh?”
“Ah-uh, Well, you see-”
“Don’t even try to humor your way out of this.”
“You just proved my point even further.”
“Couldn’t care less.”
