Red. Loud. Hot. A blaring alarm played in my face. Bright flashing red lights exploded. No longer was it "cold," but an unbearable heat. I opened my eyes, the hypersleep chamber was stuck in a closed position. The artificial gravity was out of control. It felt like normal Earth gravity, then I felt weightless, then suddenly I was being crushed. What's happening? Did we enter the gravitational pull of a star? My body was burning; I was used to only a core temperature of 12°C. I kicked and shoved the door of the hypersleep pod. Nothing moved. I was stuck and was being cooked alive.
I remembered one of my bionic arm's functions, a laser cutter. The laser was one of the functions that was still being tested and I was told to use it only in emergencies. I pressed the palm of my bionic hand against the surface of the door and began cutting a hole. My arm lost all power and fell back into place. Fuck! I pressed my other arm against the door and froze the door solid and let it heat back up over and over again until it began to crack. I grabbed my now useless bionic arm and began to jab it into the door. Shit! Just fucking break already! Finally a cloud of steam came in the hypersleep pod. I screamed for help, but no one came to the rescue. I continued to bang on the hypersleep pod until it cracked all the way. I was able to push the pieces of the door out so that I could escape.
Where is everyone? The artificial gravity was still broken, so I crawled across the floor so every time it would turn all the way up or all the way off I would stay relatively close to the floor and wouldn't be tossed around like a rag doll. The control room was only down the hall but it seemed like an endless approach. When I finally got to the room I had to stand up, and hope for the best, to see the control panel. The first time I stood up the gravity turned all the way off, then all the way on. It flung me up hitting the ceiling then it dropped me down, which would have broken nearly all my bones if I hadn't softened the floor with a layer of snow. But it still hurt. I stood up again, this time I was okay. I immediately found the artificial gravity switch and turned it off. I could confirm now that we had entered some sort of gravitational force, because the gravity was at a tilt and wasn't quite that strong.
I walked back out of the control room to look for everyone. The only thing I could hear were the blaring alarms and constant rumbling from falling through the atmosphere of some planet. No one could be heard. It was still hot and I was the only one to have come out of my hypersleep pod. I walked back into the room and stepped over large chunks of metal and other debris from my hypersleep pod door. One of the hypersleep pods wasn't stuck shut like mine so I opened it expecting some tired person to slowly emerge. The pod opened, and the chair pressed forward and out so that someone could get out. But all there was was a pile of bones and dust that fell on the floor. A dead person in the hypersleep pod. This person had been dead for a long time, perhaps thousands if years. A disgusted and frightened look came upon my face. Why was this person dead? Who was this person? Looking at the settings I found that it was Enma. Enma was dead. I frantically looked around for other pods I could easily open. I found one more. My younger brother, Natsu. A tear fell down my face. A fear filled me, a fear that someone I love is dead, that someone I swore to protect it dead. I opened it and burst into tears as his skull fell on the floor. I ran around and found my elder sister's capsule too, hers was also jammed shut, so I broke it open in my sad rage to find no more comfort than I found with Natsu. Haru was dead. Aki, where are you? I scanned the room once more, Aki's pod was also jammed shut. I broke it open and saw that my whole family and everyone I knew was dead. Filled with fury towards myself and grief that everything was gone I wailed and screamed. Icy tears streamed down my face and shattered, like my heart, when they hit the floor. Though the alarms never stopped, it was silent. I've lost everything, there's no point to keep going.
Alarms began blaring louder and lights were flashing stronger. The announcement system said that that we were due for collision any second now. Nothing mattered anymore though, I just cried and cried. Then everything shut off, I don't know if it was from the lack of power or from the ship being torn apart by the atmosphere, but everything just went black with occasional bursts of red. It was really hot, and the tears that streamed down my face evaporated away. I didn't know what to do, so I just sat there crying. I started freezing everything around me and froze myself to the ship. The room was now undeniably cold, and even though I couldn't really ever feel cold I knew it was. Frost covered everything, and held everything in place. Suddenly everything shook. I could hear liquid rushing into the ship. The liquid surrounded me and filled the entire ship. Rapidly freezing everything that got close, the slush and water eventually got to me and covered me up. It all froze, and I became encased in ice. I could see nothing. Suddenly for the first time I felt new sensation. What was this? The only word that could fill my head was "cold".
