A bit after sundown, Hito came in. He saw in the kitchen two pizza plates with all the pizza cept a slice gone. He walked over and picked up the last slice and began to eat it as he headed upstairs. He walked through the dark hall and sat himself down by his bags at what was supposed to be his room’s door.
A few minutes later, Aki came out of the bathroom with a towel plopped on his head. He looked at Hito for a minute, then just went into his room and slammed the door shut.
“Stop slamming doors!” came a voice from one of the bedrooms.
Hito sighed, nibbling on the pizza.
A couple hours later, still awake from the cold, Hito heard Aki come out of his room. He watched as the brunette walked over to him in just his pj pants and knelt down next to him.
“You never got dry?” Aki asked, whispering.
Hito shook his head.
Aki ruffled his dark hair, thinking. “Fine… C’mon in.” And he straightened up, walking back to his room. Hito looked at him questioningly. Aki looked out the door and waved for Hito to follow.
Hito got up and walked over to the room and came in. Aki closed the door behind him and handed Hito a plaid pair of pjs. “Change in the closet.” He said softly, going over to his desk and sat himself at his computer.
Hito looked for the door to the closet and changed inside. He came out a moment later with his damp clothes in his hand.
“Put them over by the door.” Aki instructed. Hito did as told and just stood next to the door, not sure what to do.
Aki looked over to the blond. “You don’t talk?” Hito shrugged. “…Do you write?” He nodded a bit. “Come over here.” Hito walked over slowly and stood next to Aki. Aki got up and gestured for Hito to sit in front of the computer screen.
“Then type to me.” Aki said, pulling up a seat to sit next to him. “I won’t understand if you don’t inform me, right?” Hito nodded slowly. “So why’d you come here?”
Hito looked to the computer, resting his hands on the keys. He thought a moment and began to type. “I wanted to get away from my controlling father.”
“…You didn’t pay tuition?”
“My friend Pheonix did.”
“Ah..” Aki nodded. “So why don’t you ever talk?”
Hito didn’t reply at first, thinking. Then he wrote. “I never saw any reason to. People just avoid me anyway.”
“Why would they do that?”
Hito looked down, and typed slowly. “Because. I have silver eyes.”
Aki tapped his shoulder. “You do…?”
Hito just nodded.
“Can I see?”
Hito looked up and then slowly over to the other. Aki stared his blue eyes deep into Hito’s silver ones. “Wow… they really are silver. Like stars. But I take it you don’t like them?”
Hito shook his head.
“You do?”
Hito turned and wrote. “I like my eyes, but everyone else hates them. So I’ve learned to hate them.”
“Oh well that’s kinda sad.” Aki shrugged.
Hito typed again. “Why are you letting me in? I thought you didn’t want someone to share your room with.”
“I don’t, Hito.” Was all Aki said at first. Then after a moment he continued. “My brother and I have had to share a room since we were kids. It grew old and tiring. I became forgotten while he soared at everything he did. So I started to compete with him in early high school. I gave up last year when I took it too far in baseball and broke my wrist.”
Aki shrugged, leaning back in his seat, looking up to the ceiling. “Everyone would always compare me to him. It got sickening. It was like they were all laughing at my face, telling me how I’m not as good as him. So… I just get angry at anything now.” He sighed. “Take the bed. I’ve got work to do.”
Hito blinked. It suddenly seemed like the strangely kind Aki was back to being a rude person. But he didn’t argue, he just got up and went to the bed, falling asleep easily.
Aki began to type up his homework. An hour or so later, he noticed a chill in the room and turned to look back at the blond. He watched Hito for a second, before he leaned back on the two back legs of the chair and reached over to pull the blanket up over Hito more. Once that was done, he smiled a bit, then dropped back to the computer desk and began to type some more.
When morning came, all Hito found were his clothes dried and hanging on the computer chair and the room empty. He yawned, getting up and dressed. Then he went downstairs to see why it was so quiet.
Aki was in the living room reading a book. “They went to the beach house for a week’s vacation.”
Hito nodded slowly and looked around for some food in the fridge.
“Try the cabinets.” Aki called.
Hito looked and found some cereal. After eating breakfast he walked over to see what Aki was reading. Aki seemed to notice and held up the book so Hito could read the title.
Romeo and Juliet.
“Home work.” Aki explained. “Why don’t you start packing up Roen’s room? There’s boxes inside the room you can put stuff in.”
Hito wasn’t sure of what else to do, and just went up to clean the room.
The whole week went like that. Basic small talking from Aki whenever Hito would float around him to see what he was doing, and silence the rest of the time.
