Asuka smiled this sneer smile and returned to his room. A few hours later, he snuck into Hito’s bedroom. Hito was asleep in his bed laying on his stomach.
“Cute,” Asuka whispered, as he walked over and sat next to Hito. “Why is my brother interested in a mute I wonder?” He shrugged a bit and leaned down, kissing Hito’s cheek.
Hito stirred a bit, lifting open a silver eye to look through the darkness. He shifted over to face the other, “…who?”
“Shh,” Asuka whispered, leaning down as their lips met.
Hito was so sleepy he just let it happen.
A few seconds later, Asuka straightened up and left the room, closing the door again. Hito touched his lips, having watched the figure leave.
I wasn’t sure who it was… At first I thought it couldn’t be Aki. He seemed to hate me. But as I lay there, loosing sleep the rest of the night, I began to realize more and more than Asuka was the same. He paid even less attention to me. So what reason would he have to kiss me?
That morning, Hito spent the day watching Asuka and Aki closely. He couldn’t figure it out. He couldn’t tell them apart, save for their hair styles. In the morning, it was bad because Asuka didn’t gel his hair back until he was just leaving for class. Having twins was hard.
So Hito tried to recognize their personalities.
Asuka didn’t like white rice plain, he poured soy sauce all over it. Aki liked only a little bit of soy sauce and hot sauce.
Asuka liked being cocky and sly, and perverted. Aki was more reserved and hardly said anything, unless he was insulting his brother. Then he’d be cocky and perverted.
By the end of the day, Hito was sure he’d never be able to tell them apart in the dark. Whoever had kissed him was definitely one of the twins, but which one?
When everyone was just settling in to sleep, Asuka came knocking on Hito’s bedroom door. Hito came and opened the door, blinking at Asuka.
“Hey, wanna hang with me tomorrow?” Asuka asked, “It’s a free day for everyone. I was thinking we could go see a movie, get a bite to eat, take a walk around the river?”
Hito stared. Why would Asuka suddenly pay him any mind? But Hito had no real reason to reject, he wasn’t doing anything. He just nodded.
Asuka smiled and leaned down, kissing Hito’s forehead. “That’s great!” He turned and walked back to his room, blowing Aki a raspberry as he came out of his room.
Aki glared after him and walked over to Hito, “What was that?” Hito shrugged. “I heard him asking you out.” Hito nodded a bit. Aki made an annoyed sound from his throat, his face copying the sound. “And you said yes?” Hito nodded again. “You do know he’s just trying to get to you to annoy me, right? He doesn’t care about you.”
Hito glared up at Aki, opening his mouth to protest.
Aki smirked, “Going to deny it? You’ve just met him. I’ve known his habits our whole lives. You think I don’t know what my own brother’s up to?” Hito tried to open his mouth to protest but no sound came. Aki shook his head, “Please, Hito. My brother doesn’t have a kind bone in his body for anyone other then himself. He’d be singing my praises on the day I died, only to follow them up with his own greater ones.” He chuckled annoyed, “He’s so full of himself. It’s pathetic. And you’re falling right into his trap!”
Aki turned and started back to his room.
Just then a sound came from Hito’s throat. “Then who kissed me!”
Aki stopped and turned to look at Hito slowly, his eyes going wide. “…Kiss?”
“J-Just now Asuka kissed my forehead!” Hito said, his voice cracking from the unfamiliar vibrations going through it. “But one of you kissed me last night! Which one!”
Aki smiled a bit, “You can’t tell us apart, can you?”
Hito looked down sadly, not really wanting to answer.
“My brother likes only himself. I hate myself.” Aki said clearly. “That’s our biggest difference. Learn it.” Hito looked up to watch Aki walk back into his room and slam the door shut.
“Wow… Never thought you’d come between peaceful twin land.”
Hito turned to see Kei leaning against his doorway, causing the blond to blush.
Kei chuckled and walked over to him. “Don’t get me wrong. It’s not like they were getting along before you came. But since you have, they seem to be fighting more. Maybe you should just stay clear of both of them?” Hito shook his head. “You don’t want to?” Again, Hito shook his head. Kei looked around, scratching his neck. “Look, Hito… Aki’s right. You gotta learn to tell the difference between the two brats. One’s in it for himself and one’s in it to kill himself.”
Hito looked to him, saying in a whisper, “Kill?”
Kei nodded, looking away. “Aki wasn’t kidding. He hates himself. He’s got it stuck in his mind that he’s no good and that no one’d miss him. So he wants to die. Stupid Asuka doesn’t know that, but he’s just adding fuel to the fire by annoying Aki every day.”
Hito looked sadly to Aki’s door. He jumped when he felt Kei’s hand on his head.
“Aki’ll see the light someday.” He said. “Someone must want him alive, right?” He smiled at Hito. “They just gotta tell him that.” He waved to Hito as he walked to his room. “Better get some sleep. Sounded like you have a big date planned for you tomorrow.”
Hito blushed. He’d accepted to go on a date with Asuka! He hadn’t realized until Kei said so just then.
