The next few weeks went pretty smooth. Aki and Asuka fought every day over being in each other’s way. Hito didn’t hang around any one, but merely waited for one of the brother’s to approach him. Still he wouldn’t talk around anyone but Aki, and only if it was just him there.
Then it was time for club sign up. Asuka signed into the business club. Kei joined the martial arts club with Shubira, saying he needed to learn self-defense. Noah joined the poetry club, needing to vent his stress from the twins. Aki joined the baseball club.
Hito couldn’t think of a club and just waited at home for everyone to get back.
One night, Hito knocked on Aki’s door. Aki answered it with a yawn. Hito waved his hands like it was a mistake and hurried off.
Aki grumbled and followed after him, “If you don’t wanna piss me off then come in and tell me, Hito.” Hito stopped and looked back to him. “C’mon.” Aki said, going back into his room. Hito came in and closed the door behind him. Aki sat down on his bed, pulling off his shirt. “So, what is it?”
Hito stood by the door quietly.
“Hito. Tell me.”
“…How’s the team?”
Aki looked at Hito, throwing his shirt at the foot of his bed. “Do you honestly care, or you just trying to strike up conversation?”
“I care!”
“…You ever seen a baseball game?”
“N-no.”
Aki rolled his eyes, falling onto his side with his head on his pillow. “Hito~ Go back to your room. I’m exhausted from training!”
“…T-training?”
“Yeah. Running every morning, running in the evening.. Practice.” Aki grumbled, “It’s a pain being a pitcher and second batsman.” He looked to Hito. “You have no idea what I’m saying, do you?”
Hito frowned and shook his head. “No.”
“Then let me rest. I gotta be up at 4 AM.”
Hito’s shoulders sagged.
Aki looked to Hito after a minute, noticing he hadn’t left. “…What is it you wanted to tell me? Or ask me?”
“Just wondering how it was going…” Hito said softly.
Aki sat up, ruffling his hair from his face a bit. “Are you feeling lonely?”
“No!”
Aki tilted his head at Hito, waiting a few seconds.
“…Y-yeah.. Maybe.” Hito gave in to the stare. “It’s just… You’re not here any more. And when you are, you’re really tired and…”
Aki blinked, his expression blank. “You wanna come watch?”
“Huh?”
“You wanna come watch?” Aki repeated. “You could even practice with us. Be an alternate if you’re good enough.”
Hito thought a second and nodded. Aki nodded and lay back down, pulling his blanket up over him. Hito just stood there. Aki pulled back the covers to look at Hito.
“Yeah?”
Hito looked down, “How’s your wrist?”
Aki lifted up his left arm to look at it. He hadn’t thought that maybe playing baseball would hurt his wrist. “Seems swollen.”
Hito walked over and touched it gently. Then he moved it carefully to get a good look. “Yeah… You should take it easy.”
Aki pulled back his arm to the blankets. “Yeah I guess.”
“Please?” Aki looked to the blond, his blue eyes wondering why Hito cared. “Please take it easy. I don’t… want you to get hurt.”
Aki smiled a bit. “All right. I’ll tell them about it tomorrow and no doubt, they’ll lay me off for a bit.” Hito’s expression softened into a smile. “Why don’t you go to bed?”
“Huh?”
“You look tired.”
Hito shook his head, “N-no.”
“Were you worrying about me this whole time?” Aki asked, watching Hito just nod. “…Thank you.” Hito tilted his head. “For caring. Now go sleep! Mastuki’ll hurt us if we’re late tomorrow.”
Hito closed his eyes, covered his mouth and let out a very soft giggle. “Oh fine. Night then.” And he turned to leave the room.
“You should do that more often.” Hito turned to look at Aki from the door. “Laugh and smile.” Hito nodded a bit and left quietly back to his room. Aki looked at his wrist once more with a strange stern face. “Seems like… I’m getting attached.” He frowned, “Means Asuka’ll be swooping in to take him away soon I guess.” Aki let out a chuckle and he rolled over and pulled up the blankets. “Then again… The next time he and Hito are alone, Hito just might smack him!” He laughed at his thoughts. “I’d pay to see that!”
