Marry Me

Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Sep 20, 2019

It'd been a whole week since Ae-Cha had the day off. She'd asked for more work, but her boss had told her she couldn’t afford to pay overtime at the moment. That in mind, Ae-Cha was currently on a job hunt, in search for another job to have on the side and that preferably paid more. The money she had on hand right now was not going to cut it.

Their mom had roughly 4 doses left of her much needed medicine, Seo-jun needed another uniform, they needed to make overdue payments on the house, including late fees. Not to mention the water heater breaking down not too long ago and then there was Jin's hospital bill..

Ae-Cha looked down at the address posted in the job article on the newspaper before looking up to the name of the building in front of her. Herochi's, huh? It didn’t look too promising, but she needed whatever she could get. Taking a step inside, she began to look around at the empty seats and awards on the walls. They seemed to have a good reputation for the customer service and cleanliness if the writing apon the plaques had anything to say about it.

"Can I assist you?", a voice spoke, pulling her out of her thoughts.

Her eyes met with an employee at the front desk. Was he there the whole time? "Yes. Sorry.", Ae-Cha replied, letting an embarrassed laugh follow her words. "I'm here for the open interview." The employee nodded. "I'm sorry, but the interview ended over an hour ago." Ae-Cha grew confused. She could have sworn it was supposed to just have started. She unfolded the newspaper, taking a glance at the job section once again before realizing she'd gotten the times mixed up.

"Oh.. I see."

The employee gave her a look of sympathy before once again apologizing. Ae-Cha gave a brief smile before walking back out the front doors. The sigh that escaped her lips could not be more depressing. This was the eighth open interview she'd been to today and they were all either too full or, like this one, already over.

Her mind began to travel to that raven haired guy who seemed to pop up everywhere. How he'd never have to even deal with things like this. It wasn’t very hard to tell he was fed with a silver spoon. Better yet, a golden spoon. One look at him and you knew he was wealthy. He had every thing going for him unlike her. Ae-Cha let her eyes skim through the newspaper. Come to think of it, she hadn't seen Seung for a while, now.

She quickly looked down to her pocket and pulled out her phone when it vibrated. It was the house number. "Hello", she answered before hearing her youngest brothers panicked voice on the other end. "Ae-Cha! Ae-Cha, please come home, now! They're trying to take the house!" Her heart sunk deep within her chest at his words. She took off not caring of the newspaper flying out of her hands in the process. She had to get home.

When she'd arrived where she was needed most, she saw Jin arguing with some men just in front of the door, Seo-jun standing right beside him, a worried expression displayed on his young face. She quickly jogged up to them.

"Is there some kind of deal we can work out?", she asked.

One of the men turned to look at her with irritation clearly written on his face. "Look, kid. We've already made more than enough deals with you and your family, but once you stop paying for over 3 months, that's when we have a problem." Ae-Cha nodded. "I understand, but we have no place to go if you take our house."

"Yeah? Well, neither do other people on the streets."

Jin had to refrain from landing a blow to this guys face. He had to be civil if they had any chance of keeping the house at all. He made eye contact with the other two guys beside this one who quickly averted their eyes to the grass, finding it so interesting. They were clearly scared of Jin. Probably thought he was going to hunt them down or something. He pinched the bridge of his nose.

"How much do we have to pay for you to give us another month?", he questioned them, barely concealing his anger.

It would be a gamble for him to try and get all of the money they needed if these guys gave them another month, but it would have to do. They said nothing in reply and let the more talkative of them speak. "We're not here to negotiate. It's either all or you're out." Jin shot him a glare that could murder thousands, causing Ae-Cha to speak up before her brother could reply. "I'll get a loan."

The guy in front of her lowered his eyes at her. "You're not going to get a loan for $160,000. It’s just not going to happen." Ae-Cha almost choked as the amount left his mouth. Had it always been that high? She looked up at Jin and then to Seo-jun who stood eye level with her. She could tell he was worried beyond belief.

"Does mom know?", she asked him in a quiet voice.

Seo-jun shook his head. If she found out.. Ae-Cha went inside to go check on her. Their mother was sleeping through it all, letting out a few coughs here and there. Ae-Cha couldn’t bare the thought of them being put out and their mother getting sicker. Tears began to build up in her eyes as she looked down at her mother. She knew what would happen to her if they were to be put out. Their mother would..

Ae-Cha quickly made her way to her room. She wasn’t going to let that happen. She began looking around, through all of her things in search for the card. "Where is it?", she asked to no one in particular. She had to find it. Her heart was heavy and her tears were falling. Everything was blurry before she saw the black card with gold writing laying dead center in the room. She had no idea how she didn’t see it when she first walked in.

Ae-Cha picked up the card and took a long hard stare at it, wiping at her cheeks. Was she really going to do this? Give herself to this man for money. She was never one to even let such ideas cross her mind. But.. thinking about her mom and her brothers, there seemed to be no other way. She made up her mind.
