When we took Layla home she was for the most part quiet. When she cried I would see what she wanted by using our connection. Lucille was so relieved that I could always know what's wrong with Layla. I continued going to work as normal. I started wearing my eyepatch around the baby and whenever I leave the apartment. Lucille hates the eyepatch. Layla likes playing with it though.
One time Layla was laying on the ground, and even though her tail is pretty stubby she rolled wrong and cut herself. Lucille lost her mind. Layla started crying I walked over to her. I put my finger in her small hand. She wasn’t crying from pain. More of discomfort and fear. I picked her up and tried calming her.
“Asher, How are you so calm!” Lucille yelled at me.
“She Isn’t hurt she is just scared,” I replied rocking Layla in my arms.
“Give her to me so I can heal her,” Lucille insisted.
I nodded and gave Layla to Lucille. Lucille took her wings out. She plucked off a feather. She laid the feather against the cut. It quickly healed.
“Be more careful sweety,” Lucille cooed at Layla.
I took the baby and laid her on the floor. She wiggled around as any baby would. I sat down on the floor watching her closely. I glanced over at Lucille. She was mumbling something under her breath.
“This wouldn’t have happened if she wasn’t like him,” Lucille mumbled.
I was heated. I picked up Layla and put her in her crib. I put my finger in her hand. She looked at me and giggled. She let go of my finger. I walked out of the room.
“I’m going out,” I told Lucille as I walked out the door.
I walked through the forest and kneeled down by a few trees. I took a breath. I kicked a tree and walked home. Lucille hugged me and apologized for not thinking about what she was saying. I forgave her and went to pick up Layla. When she saw me she smiled. As she grew up, she still smiled every time she saw me.
A few months later we got Layla I proposed. Lucille said yes. Then after a year of planning and work we got married. We still live in our cramped little apartment.
