Runners up were: "Pencils: Draw your own conclusions", "Pencils: Proud to be graded F", "Pencils: We're number 2", "Pencils: Lead it go".
Thanks to my writing group for helping me come up with the tagline!
In all seriousness, yes, this is an actual technique that WILL help you. Getting proportions right is a big part of the fight of drawing pretty much anything. Some of you may have seen artists just using their thumb alone, but using your pencil gives you more flexibility and accuracy. Think of it as an improvised ruler.
Remember to keep your arm straight! It won't help you if the sizes you're marking are from holding your arm at different lengths.
Hope this helps!
