Will sighed as he noticed Piper and Lila go off to their secret little hideout during lunch. He kind of felt bad for ditching his sister for other things and wanted to make it up to her this week but fate decided otherwise. He laid his head on the table as he watched Leo speaking with Harriet about whatever topic the girl liked. He scowled at that and looked away to face Tim.
"He's really into her, huh?" The younger boy asked.
"Yeah, I don't see what he sees in her."
"I think it's her charm?"
"What charm?"
"Where did Lila go?"
"She went off with her friend, Piper."
"Again?"
"To think she wanted to hang out with us." Will placed a dramatic arm over his eyes.
"Wasn't it odd that she didn't wait for us, or even Piper, yesterday?"
"Maybe she got tired."
"Will, I know you're worried." Tim rolled his eyes.
Will huffed and crossed his arms, "Uh-huh, what else do you know? Leo's fantasies?"
"No, ew." Time stuck his tongue out, "It's just... I saw you look for her."
"Is that why you asked?"
"You answered and proved my theory to be true," Tim smirked at his brother.
"Oh my, is dear little Timmy using underhanded tactics such as strategy? My, where did the days of impulsiveness go?"
"Shut up," Tim slapped his arm, "I'm not that impulsive."
"Sure, tell that to Leo after he screams at you for crashing that building to the ground."
"It was not my fault!"
"Be glad I covered for you." Will snorted as he crossed his arms.
Tim blew at his fringe before he turned away, "Anyways, did you notice mom and dad's faces when we left? They didn't even turn off the siren immediately."
"Yeah, weird," Will muttered as he leaned against his chair. "What do you think that was about?"
"Dunno," Tim shrugged, "just wanted to know if you knew."
Will clicked his tongue, "Dearest brother, your underhanded tactics don't work every time. Though," He eyed his older brother through his lashes, "perhaps our leader dearest knows something."
"Leo know something?" Tim snorted as he turned to his brother, "He's too fixated on Harriet to care about anything right now."
"Yeah but he's not an idiot like someone I know."
"Well, I'm sorry I can't be an honor student like you two."
"Three."
"What?"
"Did you forget that Lila is smart too."
"Oh, shut up." Tim turned away and crossed his arms.
"Don't worry, Timmy... you have your own defining qualities."
"Like what?"
"Your impulsiveness." Will let out a laugh.
Tim rolled his eyes looked up. He jumped from his seat when his dark brown eyes met brown ones. Leo rolled his eyes and combed a hand through his dark brown hair, "Listen, do you two have anything to do this afternoon?"
"Uh, yeah. The team needs me." Tim rolled his eyes, "Basketball practice is one hour but coach wants us there for another two hours."
"Yup, as club leader or president... I can't leave Chess alone." Will shrugged, "Why?"
"I noticed Lila looking pretty down yesterday and with mom telling me she came home earlier without Piper... I thought that maybe you two could-"
"No way." Tim scowled, "You're the one without an extracurricular. I'm sure if Harriet is such a great and understanding girlfriend, she will let you walk your sister home at least twice a week."
"She's not a child anymore." Harriet snorted as she settled herself beside Leo, "Plus, doesn't she have a friend?"
"That friend has an extracurricular too." Will slowly explained.
"Then she should just get one herself."
"Harriet..." Leo sighed, "Lila doesn't enjoy staying at school after hours. She-"
"-Can walk herself home anyways." Harriet huffed, "It's not that big of a problem."
"Well yes but we promised to hang out with her." Tim glared at her through his glasses.
"Then you two find time." Harriet huffed.
Before Leo could say anything else, the cafeteria doors burst open. The group of four turned to look at the commotion and see James. Harriet scowled at the boy and turned away, hoping he would not go near their group. Will cringed at the wide grin that James sported while Tim groaned. Leo rolled his eyes and turned back to his brothers, "As I was saying-"
"Hey, Leo!" James sauntered over and combed his black hair back. "Looking good there, Harriet."
"I'm taken." Harriet hissed, her eyes narrowed at the boy.
"Uh-huh. Sure, you are." He turned to face Leo and nudged him on the shoulder.
"What do you want, James." Leo breathed out as he tried to keep his temper in check.
"Well, I just wanted to check up on my favorite couple." James chuckled, "After all, the prince and queen of Stratz High as a couple? It's quite a shock."
"We've been together since summer," Leo informed the boy.
"Exactly, but did any of the students know? I don't think so." James bared his teeth.
"What do you want?" Will leaned against the table with a groan, "We don't want you here."
"Will." Tim hissed and nudged his brother, "Meant that maybe you should leave cause we were just discussing something important and private."
"Oh really? But Harriet's here." James blinked.
"She invited herself." Tim's eye twitched, "But she's Leo's girlfriend."
"Yes, now leave." Will made a show with his hands.
"Ah but-"
"Hey, Leo." Lila butted in as she placed herself between James and Leo.
"Huh, Lila?" Leo blinked as he looked around, "Where did you come from?"
"Outside," Lila responded easily. "But I see you're having a family meeting unless it's something else cause James is here."
Will noticed her glare at the boy before he added, "Yes, we had a family meeting until two people butted in."
"Yes, Lila." Harriet smiled sweetly, "Why don't you go back to your friend and-"
"Last I checked, you aren't family Harriet." Lila deadpanned.
There was silence in their table as Tim and Will felt the tension in the air. Leo took a step back as Lila stared at Harriet blankly before she turned and regarded James with a disgusted look. James grinned back at her before he stuffed his hands into his jersey pocket, "Well then, it looks like something's brewing over here between the Queen and the Knight, huh?"
"The hell are you talking about?" Lila raised an eyebrow. Leo blanched as he looked at his sister. She never cursed at anyone other than her family, it was a private thing she did. He also considered the fact she only did it in public when she absolutely despised someone.
"Lila?" Will weakly called out.
"Yes?"
Will gulped as his sister snapped back, "Uh, maybe... maybe we should continue this somewhere else?"
"No. What's wrong with it being here?" Lila turned to smile sweetly at her brothers. "It's just a simple discussion. A discussion of who belongs and who doesn't."
"Ooooh, you hear that, Queenie?" James chuckled as he leaned closer to Harriet, "She's staking her claim."
"Ugh, get away from me." Harriet pushed his face away with a disgusted snarl.
Lila turned to her, "Oh? I thought the two of you were... acquainted."
Harriet felt uneasy at the shark-like grin the younger girl gave her, "I- I don't know what you mean. I don't associate myself with people like him."
"Uh-huh." Lila mused with a knowing air around her. "Well then, you don't have any-"
"Lila." Piper pushed herself into the group and grabbed her arm. "I think that's enough."
The two stared at each other for a while before Lila huffed and looked away. There was a moment of silence. She turned to Leo with a small smile, "Sorry that I butted in. Anyways, I overheard your topic and thought I'd say something about it."
"Lila-" Tim started.
"No." She shook her head at her brother, "It's fine. I'll just hang with Piper and the Math Enthusiasts."
"But-"
"It's fine. Just drop it, I might even try to find my own extracurricular." She smiled sweetly at Harriet, "I mean, Harriet might be right- I probably just need to find one to occupy my time."
Without another word, the two left the group. The group stared as the two exited the cafeteria. They turned back to look at James who whistled, "Feisty..."
