Satoshi used his dimensions to walk directly to his room after work. The instant he opened his door, he could tell someone had been in his bedroom. Something was off about his room. After a moment he noticed the origami swan on his shelf, made out of a one dollar bill. Looking around, he spotted the money rose on his bookcase next, before he saw the sign on his desk. ‘YOU DON'T EXPERIMENT WITHOUT CONSENT DUMBBUTT!!’ was written in glittery marker ink on a poster board with smaller text scribbled at the bottom. ‘P.S. My share of the rent is all in your room, Luce expects it unfolded and handed back ASAP.’
Sato peaked his head out of his bedroom door. “Hey, Luci, why did someone put a glittery sign on my desk? Also, I guess they left money for you in my room….?”
“Hmm? Oh that was Greer.” Lucius had a dismissive tone. “She’s quite upset with you for running experiments on her powers without telling her. That was really reckless of you, endangering her life without letting her know.”
“But-” Luce turned around and cut him off with a hint of anger in his voice.
“Satoshi Holmes. There is no excuse for what you did. You put your own curiosity above a girl’s wellbeing.”
“I just- I’m sorry….”
“Are you? Are you really? Sato, do you even understand what you did wrong?”
“...Not entirely. I was doing what she asked, proving one way or the other if she had powers. After confirming that she does, I just thought it would be best to have plenty of information about said powers before telling her, so we could properly inform her. Telling her about the experiments might have messed with the data.”
Luce sighed. “I understand how important having uncorrupted data is, but…. What you did wasn’t acceptable.” Lucius turned away. “But that can wait until later. I’ve decided how you can pay me back for having me use my powers…. There’s a fancy Italian place that just opened a few blocks away. You’re taking me out to dinner tonight so go get dressed.”
Ten minutes later, Sato came back out in a slightly fancier suit than he wore for work. Surprisingly, Luce headed, not to the apartment door, but towards the closet door. A gym talisman was attached to the door. Satoshi followed with a questioning look. Maybe he was grabbing something he forgot in the gym?
Entering the pool room, Luce finally spoke. “Jump into the pool.”
“Alright, just let me-”
“No, just as you are.”
“But this is-”
“Your sixth best suit, I know. Just dive in and I’ll explain after.” Throughout the whole exchange, Luce didn’t use his powers once. It was blind trust in his boyfriend that caused Sato to stop questioning and take the plunge. After Sato resurfaced, he looked to Lucius expectantly. Surely there was a point to that, something to be learned. Luce looked bored. “Oh, you actually did it.”
“Well, you told me to jump in.”
“Yeah, well, I’m mad at you and wanted to know if you would actually do it. It was an experiment.”
“So, were the results within your hoped for parameters?”
“Well, you jumped in but don’t understand what I’m trying to illustrate, so what do you think?”
“I think that despite loving you, I don't understand you sometimes. Just tell me what you want me to understand.”
“I was trying to show you how Greer felt about being part of an experiment without her knowledge, but I forgot how experiment focused you can be.” Luce went to help his boyfriend out of the pool. “Now that I’ve got my revenge, we can talk about this in a more civilized fashion.” For a moment, as he got out, Sato considered pulling Lucius into the pool instead of getting out. But, he knew that he deserved this, even if he didn’t totally understand why.
“Okay.” They walked over to the chairs by the pool, and Satoshi took off his wet jacket before he sat down on one.
“Alright, let’s try this again.” Luce sat down in the chair next to him. “I’m going to give you a hypothetical situation and when I’m done, I want to know your reaction.” Sato nodded his agreement. “Okay, so say one of your assistants switched out my power-blocking meds for an experimental version they were working on and didn’t tell either of us.”
“I would be upset. That would be really dangerous and…” Sato seemed to be catching on to what Luce was trying to convey. “But, I was monitoring it to make sure there wasn’t any danger.”
“Except, you missed the signs that pointed to the car blowing up. You couldn’t predict every outcome nor monitor her 24/7. You were taking a lot of risks without any of us knowing that she could be in danger.”
“As usual, you’re totally right, Dear. I’ll keep that in mind for the future.” Shi-shi stood up. “And no more experimenting without the person’s express consent.”
“Good. Oh, and one more thing.” Luce took out his phone and snapped a picture of Sato before typing on his phone. Sato suddenly heard the notification for a text go off from inside his jacket. Thank goodness he had a waterproof phone because he forgot about it being in there when he jumped into the pool. “Send that and an apology to Greer.”
Sato did so immediately. “So, I guess I should go get changed again so I can take you out to dinner.”
“Well, I’m not really too hungry right now. How about…?” Luci gestured towards the pool.
Sato playfully smirked. “Sure let’s just make sure we are… appropriately dressed this time.”
