Thaddeus Walks over to the couch claiming it as the kids laughed. This was
going to be a long journey. Even though he agreed to help there was just
something off about him. For the time being I decided to just ignore him
getting Kibo into bed. Bren sat there messing with his new flying board, I
t was funny to watch his attempts to fly around the room. I almost felt bad
when I laughed as he fell into my lap. Bren gives me a pouty face as sitting
back up trying once more. You had to admit he was stubborn. I sat there just
watching him practice for a while till dozing off.
Bren notices Lain asleep on the floor as putting up his hover board. He smiles
placing a pillow under her head along with a blanket on her. Thaddeus opens
his eyes watching Bren closely.
“Why do you care so much for her?”
He wasn’t trying to be rude but genuinely wanted to know about their
relationship. Bren walks over looking down at him.
“I am only going to say this once to you. Don’t fuck my family over. Lain
and Kibo mean everything to me. If not for Lain I would still be all alone.”
Thaddeus sits up looking to Lain and Kibo sleeping.
He could tell that Bren meant every word he spoke.
“So you care for her since she stopped you from being lonely? Anyone
could have done that.”
Bren lets out a sigh sitting down on the chair moving some hair from his
face.
“You don’t understand do you? Lain is like a mother to me. Yes anyone
could have taken the loneliness away but they didn’t. Not only did she take
it away but made me part of her life. She gave me a true place to belong. I
had nothing all my life. Lain and Kibo are more important to me then the
air I breathe.”
Thaddeus looked to him a little shocked.
He’d never cared for someone more then life itself. This was strange to hear
someone younger then him speak in such a manner. When he was given his
mission this was never informed how caring the target was to others. In the
back of his mind he felt guilty but it was too late to turn back. He knew
failure was not an option although he did kind of like this bunch. He lets out a
sigh shrugging.
“Yeah your right I don’t understand kid..although I really guess I don’t need
too.”
Bren gave him a faint smile nodding off into the chair.
Once everyone was asleep Thaddeus got up walking outside. He pulled a
small bead from his pocket. It glowed a small red dim light then a sphere
appeared around his body. The sphere blocked anyone from seeing or
hearing what was happening inside it. He pushed the screen as a woman’s
voice came through clearly.
“Is the job done I gave you?”
Thaddeus lets out a sigh looking to the screen.
“Yeah....they are going to be going to Kings. Why did you want them to go
there any ways?”
The voice on the other side starts to laugh.
“I just wanted to torment the little wolf more before we meet in person. I
can’t wait to cut this one into tiny pieces as well. Although from your
report they are more in-tuned with the spirit of the wolf then the others.
This might make this more fun.”
He really didn’t understand what she meant by that.
“Carson what is your next assignment?”
On the other end of the call the woman was looking down to her table
stroking it. She couldn’t help but be excited at the prospect of dissecting
another wolf.
“Stay with them. make them believe you are there to help them. I will not
take failure from you.”
Thaddeus looks back even though not being able to see through the sphere.
“Yes....mother...”
He ends the call putting the bead back into his pocket. He sat on the couch
for a moment just trying to gather himself to play his part.
Thaddeus had always been a very good puppet. Do his job then return over
and over that was his duty. He laid back onto the couch looking over to Lain
sleeping.
“She really is kind of pretty for being so dangerous.”
He chuckles at himself rolling over falling asleep. In the morning Lain woke
up first. She waiting for Kibo and Bren to wake to get something to eat. When
they came back Thaddeus was still sleeping on the couch. Lain couldn’t
resist herself as she poured a pitcher of water over his head.
He jumped up throwing flames to her face as she cracked up.
“What the fucking hell Lain? Seriously is that how you wake those kids up
too?”
Bren looked to Kibo then cracked up himself.
“Nope, they actually wake up before two in the afternoon.”
He let out a growl using his fire to dry his body off. I couldn’t help but to
keep smiling as seeing his grumpy face. I watched as he gobbled up the food
the kids brought back for him.
“Do you know anything else about Kings?”
Thaddeus raised his head from the food shaking his head no.
“I told you all I know. Although a long time ago there was a bunch of
criminals who used that place as a hideout. I kind of remember hearing
about that during my travels.”
He then goes back to eating while ignoring me.
The next few days go by kind of fast. Although I have to admit it was kind of
fun fighting with mister flame thrower. When we got ready to leave
Thaddeus grabbed my arm.
“Wait a moment. I got a better way to travel.”
He pulled the same orb from his pocket but this time there was three more.
As they turned into hover bikes the look on Bren’s face was sheer
excitement. There was no way I am winning this war of how to travel with
how giddy he was acting.
