I never thought that a bed could be so amazing! Really, having wings in my back every night is so tiring and the fact that I rarely use them doesn't help either.
“Sweetie school starts in an hour are you home!” I rolled over and sighed
“I’m home but can I skip school today!” I swear I heard her eye twitch and then the footsteps came. Crap! And I'm too weak to move! The door slammed open and I knew exactly what was going to happen.
“Young lady just cause you go around at night dealing with people and their problems doesn't mean you can skip something like this!” She grabbed a pillow from my chair and started beating me with it.
“Stop…” I moaned which was a really bad decision.
“Fine then. Remember this hurts me more than it hurts you…!” She pulled out her spray bottle and pointed it directly at my face.
“Wanna get up now sweetie!” She gave a smile and without hesitation rained hail on me. I lurched up and winced at the pain in my back.
“Oh my… The wings hurt that much?” I nodded yes and she left. I sat there trying to get used to the pain and Lily came back with a towel.
“I’ll tell the school your not feeling well so please rest…” I nodded and slowly lifted the towel to my face and hair. She went down stairs and I could only hear a few words from their conversation.
“Yes…. Friend?.....I'm sure…. Thank you ...” I went back to drying my hair and winced at another spasm of pain. Lily came quietly through the door and reached out her hand for the towel. I gave it to her and turned slightly.
“Your friend will come with your homework. I'm sorry i'm such a bad guardian…” I turned to face her despite the pain.
“Your the best guardian I could ever ask for… maybe even the best mother…” She goes silent for a second and I realized how much I've upset her.
“I guess you're right. And I’m lucky to be looking after someone like you!” She hugged me and all that could go through my mind was how much this could have been me with my own mother. Screw her! She has never cared about me! She doesn't even remember my birthday!
“Stop thinking that way about your parents.” I flinched
“H- How do you know I was thinking…” I look away and look at my hands
“You tense every time you think about your parents. Remember sometimes love can be blinding and when that fades you see a different person.” I turned my head back to her.
“Is that what happened with you and Ryan?” She paused
“Yeah pretty much but he was a brat mostly!” She got up and acted out his tantrums and all I could do was laugh. One rule at our house is the past is the past if you don’t like it make a joke from it! She got up from the ground and walked to the door.
“Rest and i’ll be back in a bit with some tea.”
“You forgot I don’t need to sleep!” She began to laugh
“May be true but I don’t want to deal with a grumpy child later!” I sneered playfully and laid back down and Lily closed the door and went downstairs. I took out my contacts and put an eye patch on my blind eye. I must have dozed off because I woke to the doorbell going off.
