When the day ended, Lila groaned into her hands as she followed Piper to her club. The blonde laughed at her friend's antics as she pushed the door open. There were a few greetings, some a bit shyly then the rest at Lila's appearance. Piper waved at them and placed herself on her usual station. Lila grabbed an empty chair and sat down with her legs crossed.
She leaned on the table Piper used. She looked on as Piper unpacked her things. She tilted her head as she thought of the events that happened. First, James and Harriet just had to ruin lunch then Will looked shaken up after his first afternoon period. It didn't help that Tim and Leo were glaring at each other the rest of the day. Lila sucked in a breath as she dragged a hand through her short raven locks.
Piper raised an eyebrow and tapped her pencil on the table, "Yo, what's up?"
"Leo and Tim are at it again."
"What could have happened when we left?"
"Knowing Tim and his impulsiveness, probably something bad." Lila shook her head. Sometimes dealing with her brothers became a chore. She loved them to bits but there were moments like these that she wished she was an only child. She hid a smile as she thought about it- it wouldn't be as fun as right now if she was alone.
Piper hummed as she scratched down a few numbers on her worksheet, "It wouldn't be Tim if he didn't make things worse for the two."
"True." Lila laughed. She glanced down at the worksheet her friend was answering. She licked her lips as she mentally answered some of the items.
Silence dropped over the clubroom before Lila huffed to herself. This was why she hated staying after hours, nothing to do. Piper looked up when she heard the huff and raised an eyebrow. With a roll of her eyes, she tapped the table to get her friend's attention. When Lila looked up, Piper leaned on her palm, "If you're bored... why don't you start on our project?"
Lila stuck out her tongue as Piper giggled. She smiled as she looked into her bag. With a start, she realized most of her papers were back in her locker. She cursed under her breath and stood up, "Uh, Piper, I left most of my papers back at my locker. I'll be right back."
"Take your time, I'll be waiting." Piper nodded and returned her focus on her worksheet.
Lila rushed out the room and into the almost empty corridors. She ignored most of the people within the corridors and located her locker immediately. When she reached her locker and opened it, someone leaned against the locker next to hers.
"Yo."
Lila glanced at her right and noted James slumped form. She clenched her jaw and took a deep breath as she searched through her locker for her papers. When he didn't leave, she sighed, "What do you want?"
"Me?" James blinked as he gestured to himself.
"Don't act shocked." Lila rolled her eyes and pulled out her pad of papers.
"I was wondering," He grinned as she closed her lockers, "that maybe you'd shed a bit of light on how to befriend your brothers."
"No thank you." Lila snorted, "I'm not their personal assistant."
"You might as well be." James laughed.
Lila's eyes twitched as she glared at the boy before her. She felt a shiver crawl up as he locked eyes with her. There it was again. It was that unnerving feeling she felt whenever she was near James. She took a deep breath and faced the one thing that annoyed and intrigued her to no end, "Very funny."
"What? No tips?"
"Stop being annoying."
"Anything else?" James wrapped an arm around her waist as he wiggled his eyebrows.
Lila pulled a face and got out of his grip. She waved her hand dismissively, "Stop being a dick?"
James snorted and combed his hair back with his hand, "What else?"
A sly smile crept up Lila's face as she barely glanced back at him, "Stop hooking up with Harriet for one. That's absolutely disgusting."
There was silence. Lila took that chance to walk away before a hand grabbed her upper arm tightly. She hissed and turned around, ready to slap his face. She paused when she noticed the dark smile on his face, "Oh? And how do you know this?"
"It wasn't hard to figure out," Lila responded coolly. Deep inside, her stomach turned as she observed the boy. His eyes were strangely calculating and his smile didn't seem all too friendly and naive. She steeled her nerves and continued on, "I mean, she didn't have to make a fake account. It's way too obvious even if she's going incognito."
James hummed and his grip tightened. Lila narrowed her eyes at him as he smirked, "So, does Leo know?"
Lila froze. This was the moment she knew she messed up. She searched his face and came up blank. She tightened her grip on her papers before she released a breath, "No."
"You're keeping secrets from your brother?" James chuckled. She glared at him and tugged at her arm. He grinned back as he kept his grip firm, "I wonder- what would Leo feel if he found out that you knew all this time but never told him."
"I will." Lila protested. "I will tell him so you better shove off, James."
"Sure." James dragged on the word as he let go. He crossed his arms and tilted his head, "Well, you should go back to Piper."
Lila clicked her tongue as she rubbed her arm, "Mind your own business, James."
"Harriet is my business," James responded confidently. Lila's lips formed a thin line as he tilted his head upwards. "She became my business when she decided to fuck me instead of your brother."
"I don't have time for this." Lila hissed out as she turned around and left. She could still feel his gaze on her.
She wrapped her arms around her as she hurried to the club room. She could feel her blood run cold when she thought of what James could do. She cursed under her breath and burst into the room. She ignored the rest of the student's looks and rushed to Piper. She slammed the pad on the table and looked down.
"Lila? What's wrong?"
She still couldn't shake away the feeling of coldness. She shivered and clenched her jaw. She glared at the table and thought about what she had done. James knew. He knew and she messed up. James was always an unpredictable person. He was also impulsive and spontaneous which meant he did things that hurt people.
Lila's eyes widened. She told him that she knew. She felt her throat constrict and her mouth dry up. Who knows what he would do with that information. Who knows what rumors he could spread. He could do anything and Lila couldn't stop him. Not when she's an underclassman. What she needs is a distraction. A distraction for her and her brothers.
"I messed up." Lila couldn't keep the shakiness out of her voice. She took a deep breath to steel her nerves.
"What did you?" Piper asked as she tilted her head.
"I told James."
Piper stiffened, "Told him what?"
"That I knew. That I knew he was hooking up with Harriet."
"Oh shi- what did he say?"
Lila shook her head and tried to forget the cold feeling, "He... he was smug."
Piper frowned as she tapped her pencil rapidly on the table, "That's different. Especially since it's you, the most feared underclassman, sister of the so-called princes."
"Exactly and it unnerves me." Lila shivered.
"What are you going to do about it?"
"I need a distraction. If he spreads any rumors, I have to make sure Leo hears nothing until I tell him myself."
"Distraction..." Piper muttered to herself.
"What do you have in mind?" Lila huffed and sat down on her seat. She covered her face with her hands and leaned against the table.
"Your plan."
"My what?"
"Your plan." Piper glanced around the room.
"Oh..."
"Yes, distract them that way..."
"You're a genius, Piper." Lila breathed out with a small smile. "I think it's time to tell mom."
