It was only a few months after the Tribe had split. Every Lightning dragon was looking worried ever since Lightningwing was declared one of the prophesied seven by Zeric. She always had this sad look on her face, maybe it was because of Zeric’s death, or she could sense that everyone was wary of her. I don’t know for sure but she’s just always looking sad. Her father Saberheart was voted leader by everyone else over his daughter. Zeric declared before his death that whomever became the leader their name have heart in it, for the brave soul that became leader. We moved from the valley to the far East side of the volcano. Everyone is exhausted and I guess the gloominess of the place doesn’t help with the mood. It’s always foggy and it’s muddy, and smells bad. Shadowheart, Iceheart, Skyheart, Mudheart, Fireheart, Puddleheart, and Lightningwing all decided on territory lines. Most of us are not happy about the choice, she is constantly getting tongue for it but even I understand why she chose it. The fog is easy to blend in with and the smell hides most of our scent. The prophesied seven and a trusted dragon each went to scout out their new territories. We set up a temporary camp as the long flight exhausted us. Yes us Lightning dragons are still tired after the flight and we weren’t even at the official campsite. Other dragons would be too tired to move, they’d probably die of exhaustion to be honest. We started to pack up to start our long journey to our new home. I saw Lightningwing helping her dad take down their makeshift nest. When I came up to them she flinched, her dad looked at her with a worried look and then turned to me.
“What is it Cloudclaw?” He asked.
“Which way are we going this time? Everyone wants to know.” I said. Saberheart looked to Lightningwing. She stretched her neck to the sky as if seeing through the fog.
“We’re going East, it should be one more day of walking, shorter if everyone would fly.” She said. Saberheart nudged her.
“Can you tell everyone we’re going East, Cloudclaw?” Lightningwing said shaking her father off her shoulder. I nodded and launched myself into the air and flew to the others. I landed in the middle of everyone who were still packing up.
“Ok everyone, Lightningwing said we are going East. It should take a day of walking. Unless you guys are willing to fly?” I said scanning over everyone. They all grumbled.
“We will walk, then maybe we will fly later.” Bluehorn said. Everyone started to talk among themselves trying to decide. Then Lightningwing came walking up, everyone fell silent when they noticed her. Saberheart came walking up behind her.
“Are we walking or flying?” She asked. Stormscale started to say something, probably going to insult her again, but Bluehorn cut in.
“We will walk! And then we will fly later on, when our energy is back up.” Lightningwing looked down and started walking. Everyone followed her with Saberheart trailing in the back. It was about high sun when Stormscale blurted out,
“Are you sure this is the right way, or are you just leading us away to our demise?” He smirked and then bumped into the dragon in front of him as everyone had stopped. I saw Lightningwing just stand there and turn around looking at the dragon with pure hate in her eyes.
“What was that?” She said. Saberheart came up next to her.
“Lightningwing...don’t.” He said. But she just ignored him.
“You want to try and lead a group of stubborn dragons!?” She yelled. Her and Stormscale dropped the stuff they were carrying.
“Maybe Zeric chose wrong. He should have chosen someone else, someone more fit to lead than a teenager with no experience!” Something in Lightningwing just snapped. She lunged at the dragon biting him on the neck. The dragon slashed at her, scratching her cheek, but she returned it with a deep gouge in his arm. Saberheart watched in horror as his daughter battled this dragon. When they finished the were both bleeding, Lightningwing on top of him pinning him to the ground. She then leaned down and whispered in his ear. I was just in earshot.
“Learn your place, and maybe you should watch your tongue next time.” She got off him, picked up her things, and started walking. Everyone was shocked.
