This takes place the Halloween before our story begins! In Reverie we have Halloween as well, only the history is a bit different. You see, the town of Holiday was built in a bioluminescent mushroom grove that's next to a cursed forest. Once a year during a "Purple Moon" it's said that the spirits from the forest can come out and spirit away any living person! So, ancient peoples would dress like ghouls as a disguise so that spirits wouldn't take them! Although, that's just an old folk tale. Nowadays people dress however they want. Even if they just want to be a princess.
