"Today will be partly cloudy, with a chance of rain in the afternoon. So, everyone please don't forget your umbrellas. As you may all know, today marks the 5th anniversary of the first killing of the awful Heart Thief. Even though it has been 3 months since the latest killing, there has been no new whereabouts of the killer. But the police have been working to the bone to bring this killer to justice. I'm Lacy Colgwin with Sunny News and have a beautiful day everyone." I turn off the TV. Man, so much for "sunny news", I scoffed.
"Meow!" I look over and see Cupid pawing at the his bowl. He looks over at me and starts giving me his begging look.
"Cu, sometimes I think you were suppose to be a dog, but got stuck as being a cat." I get up to feed him, while I look at my phone for the time. "I'm going to be late for work!" I run into the kitchen and just scoop up his food and dump it into his bowl. "Sorry bud." I run to my room to get ready for work. As I get to the door, I quickly grab my umbrella. Can't forget this, I thought. I open it and yelled, "See you later Cu." I close the door and ran down the stairs to get to work.
...
"Kaysha you're late," Jida yelled from her office, "what's the excuse this time?" I walk into the room, to see her working on some papers. Why did her office had to be by the elevator?
"Well, you know the forecast said there was a chance for rain later. Before I got to the bus stop, I almost forgot my umbrella. So, I had to run all the way back to my apartment to get it-"
"Lie", she said.
"What", I said now confused.
"I said it was a lie. I'm not blind Kaysha. I can clearly see you don't have an umbrella, unless you have one small enough to fit in that little purse? Which I might add is cute." I look down at my arm and it was actually gone. What happened to it? Suddenly there came a knock at the door. It was Trevor, the tallest guy in the office.
"I'm sorry. I don't mean to interrupt, but Kaysha you left your umbrella in the elevator," he said as he hands it to me.
"Thanks," I replied. It always amazes how tall he is. He then turns and leaves the room. Leaving me all alone with Jida. Great.
"I guess I owe you an apology." I quickly look up at her wide eyed.
"Uh, it's ok. I kno-"
"Oh and here. I want you to confirm these numbers of the Icamore file, since your good at it. I want done by the end of lunch." She hands me the file. And there's the Jida I know.
"Yes, Jida." I leave her office and walk to my desk. I'm glad at least my desk is far from her. I open the file and saw that I had my work cut out for me. So, I started my computer and got to work.
As I kept working, it felt like hours went by. But when I looked at the clock only minutes have. It felt like an eternity. When lunch came, but I couldn't go out, because of the file. When I finally got the file done, Jida comes by with another file for me to confirm. I just can't wait to go home and take a nap. So, I do what I've always done ... I cried silently while working.
...
Finally, after an excruciating amount of work hours, the day was over. I quickly grabbed my things and headed for the elevator, before Jida comes by with another file. Once I got to the Lobby floor, I push myself through the crowd, went straight through the doors when suddenly I was hit with rain. I open my umbrella, when I notice the claw marks. "Cupid, why did you this to me? After the all the love we shared." I turn around to go back to the building, when I bump right into Trevor.
"Hey Kaysha. Did you forget something again," he chuckled. He then came a little close to cover me from the rain. How sweet.
"No, I just don't have an umbrella since my cat ruined mine. So, I was going to wait inside till the rain stopped."
"Well, I can walk you to the bus station since I have to stop by Warm Cup for some more coffee grounds," he said as he ran his hand through his wavy, red hair. For a split second, my heart felt weird. Kind of like a little flutter. I think I might need to go check with my doctor.
"Really? I don't want to bother you."
"Nonsense. It's just on my way. I think they also sell umbrellas too. So, what do you say," he says with one raised eyebrow.
"Since they have what I need, sure why not." He switches his umbrella and his brief case. He looks at me and says, "I want to make sure you don't get splashed by a car." He gives me a little smile and I felt that same feeling as earlier. It feels, kinda nice.
As we make it to the coffee shop, they did sell umbrellas. I saw that they sell ones with cats. It had a little cat head at the bottom of the handle. After we finished, we then head for the bus station.
"Here we are. I hope your cat doesn't ruin this one," he said as we sat down on the bench.
"Yeah," I giggled. As soon as we had arrived, so did the bus. "I guess this is farewell." As I got up from the bench, he grabbed my hand. I turn to look at him.
"Oh, sorry." He lets go. "I want to ask, if would like to go see the new ballet performance at the Mygnamar Theater this Saturday? I-If your not busy." He shifts his weight from foot to the other. He seems kind of nervous.
"Yes, I would love too. Here." I grab his hand and wrote down my number. "Just send me text me the time. See you at work."
"Yeah... See you." He gave me a quick smile, before I went on the bus. I sat down and wave to him before he left. I look at my hand. The way he touched was gentle and kind. It was soft as a cat's paws. As I look through my chirper page my vision went a bit blurry. I also can feel a headache coming on in the back of my head. I better take my pills when I get home, before they get worse. And why is this happening again?
