Arcane Chronicles Volume 1

Chapter 3: Robert Astorlight

Chapter 3: Robert Astorlight

Sep 27, 2019

I got up at 6. a.m, which was far too early for a guy like me. Still half asleep I went through my standard morning workout and then got ready for breakfast. The food they made for us noblemen was amazing. For breakfast, there was a buffet with a variety of different things. I ate bacon and eggs and then three bananas. I also drank three cups of coffee to get the day started. After breakfast, I went to the classroom where the professor told us about the Grimoire. I couldn’t wait to finally get my hands on one, so I was quite excited.

I was the last one to enter the classroom but I made it there before the Professor, although he arrived just shortly after me. He went up to the desk in front of the classroom and started explaining.

“Today, you will get your very own Grimoires. We have already prepared them and all that’s missing is to link them to you. Before we do that, I would like to tell you, that a Grimoire is incredibly expensive to make. So use it carefully and make absolutely sure not to lose or destroy it! Once a Grimoire is destroyed it can’t be restored and without a Grimoire, you can’t cast spells or use any kind of arcane technology.”

He then said that we should follow him, and went to another room with us. There was a waiting area in front of the room and he told us to wait there. He then called us one after the other and told us to follow him into that room. We were called in the order in which we were mentioned yesterday. That Painton Daniel was the first to enter. After ten to fifteen minutes he came out again with a Grimoire in his hand. The Professor told him to immediately head to the classroom and wait there. Then the next person was called in. More than an hour passed until I was finally called.

The room I just entered hat dark grey walls, floor and ceiling. There was a pedestal with a Grimoire in the middle of the room and a chair in front of it. The Professor made me sit down in the chair and strapped my arms and head to it.

He then said: “For the Grimoire to be linked to you, I first have to inject a crystalline serum into your brain, to make it capable of communicating with the Grimoire. Don’t worry, this is not dangerous and only hurts a little.”

He then pulled out a syringe from behind his back and injected the content of it into my brain. I felt some pain and then a strange feeling like I had drunk way too much. After a few minutes, it went away and everything was back to normal.

The Professor continued: “Now that your brain is ready, we have to establish the link. This will also feel quite strange, but don’t worry” He then went to the other side of the room and pressed some buttons on the desk there. I felt a strange tingling sensation and my vision was blurred. The Grimoire started to glow and there were outbursts of energy looking light lightings swirling around me.

I heard a high-pitched sound and my body started feeling numb. After a few seconds, everything was over and I felt absolutely exhausted.

The Professor then went up to me, got me out of that chair and gave me the Grimoire. He told me: “This is now your Grimoire. It is linked to your brain. You will be able to observe that the crystal on the cover isn’t colourless anymore but rather your favourite colour. You will also be able to unlock it just by thinking about unlocking it. However, be careful with it and try nothing without my instructions. Head for the classroom and wait there.”

After that, I left the room and went to class. A few others were already there and talked about what they experienced. I just sat down and tried to relax a bit, but my thoughts circled around that Grimoire. I was excited about what would come next. I was imagining all the different spells I could make and what a great Arcanist I would become. I felt so powerful and just plainly amazing.

After a little while, the others entered the classroom and a few minutes later the Professor returned too. He told us that we had a two-hour break now and that we should eat something now. At 2 p.m we would continue with the lesson and then he would teach us the basics of spell casting. He again mentioned that we absolutely mustn’t try anything with the Grimoire on our own. With this warning, he concluded this lesson and left the classroom.

I left shortly afterward and headed for the dining hall. I was already starving and much appreciated the sumptuous meal. It was absolutely delicious and made me regain my stamina. That Grimoire linking was quite exhausting. After lunch, I went back to class and waited for the beginning of the next lesson.
